EUR/USD Analysis: The 160bp Rate Gap That Won't Close

EUR/USD is trading near the 200-day SMA and the lower boundary of its range.

Eurozone inflation rose to 3.2% in May — a two-and-a-half-year high — with core accelerating to 2.5% and services to 3.5%. The ECB is expected to hike 25bps next week with 95% probability. But the rate differential tells the story: the US sits at 3.75%, Europe at 2.15%. That is a 160-basis-point gap.

Even if the ECB hikes and the Fed holds, closing that gap requires sustained tightening over multiple meetings.

The problem is the Fed is not standing still. Markets price a 40% probability of a US hike by December. If the Fed moves while the ECB is still catching up, the differential continues to favor the US by a wide margin. The rate chart illustrates this: US rates have consistently sat above Europe's since 2022. The war has not changed that structural advantage.

In my view, EUR/USD is positioned lower over the medium term to long term.

Chart of the day: interest rate forecasts into 2027... Part of the reason I am currently leaning bearish on precious metals is the drastic shift from 2023-2025.

PPI YoY - rising sharply. Producers are seeing price hikes, which could carry through to the consumer (and likely will in coming months)

DXY Analysis: All Eyes Are Now on Friday's Employment Data

DXY at 99.51, pressing against the resistance zone that has capped the index since March. A sustained break above 99.50 opens the path toward the 100.50 zone.

The fundamental case has materially strengthened this week. Manufacturing PMI hit 54.0 — the highest since May 2022. Services PMI beat expectations. ADP and JOLTs both came in above consensus. The US economy is not slowing; it is accelerating into elevated inflation, which justifies the Fed's hawkish posture.

The Iran negotiation breakdown has restored the dollar's safe-haven bid. Oil surging on renewed escalation, yields posting their largest jump in two weeks, and inflation expectations rising have all reinforced the case for sustained tightening.

Friday's NFP is the next test. A strong print likely confirms the breakout. A miss may delay it, but the structural backdrop remains supportive.

Bitcoin Analysis: They Sold.

Bitcoin continues its brutal breakdown today. The recent rally was rejected at the support-turned-resistance zone near $80,000–$84,000, with the 200-day SMA reinforcing that ceiling.

Price is on pace to test the next support zone at $60,000. Below that, the weekly structural floor sits at $50,000 — a level that has held as long-term support for over a year. The path from $124,000 peak to current levels reflects a sustained downtrend.

The fundamental backdrop reinforces the technical picture. Spot Bitcoin ETFs have recorded 12 consecutive days of net outflows totaling $3.45 billion. Strategy sold 32 BTC — its first sale since 2022. Mt. Gox moved over 10,000 BTC. Tether liquidated 204 BTC from its reserve wallet for the first time. $1.7 billion in leveraged positions were wiped out yesterday alone.

Failed rallies at major resistance combined with persistent institutional selling is killing Bitcoin.

Silver Analysis: $68 Support Is Now the Line in the Sand

The metal is testing the lower support zone near $68–$72 that has held through multiple selloffs since April. The 200-day SMA sits below at $68, providing dynamic support that aligns with structural demand.

Silver peaked near $120 in early February when war-driven inflation fears were at their peak — and has since lost approximately 40% of its value. The same forces that have crushed gold are weighing on silver. Higher yields, persistent inflation pushing central banks hawkish, and a strong dollar combine to penalize non-yielding precious metals.

Cleveland Fed President Hammack stated that the Fed could be forced to raise rates soon if inflation pressures continue. Friday's NFP is the next catalyst — a strong print reinforces the hawkish framework and pressures silver further. A weak print may offer temporary relief.

USD/CAD: All Eyes Are Now On Tomorrow's Dual Employment

USD/CAD is pressing into a resistance zone that has capped advances since early April. The pair has been climbing steadily from the 1.3550 lows, but this is the third test of resistance. Tomorrow's dual employment release will determine whether the pair breaks higher or rejects again.

The rate divergence remains the structural driver. The Fed sits at 3.75%, with markets pricing approximately 40% odds of a hike by December. The Bank of Canada is at 2.25%, with the market pricing just 4% odds of a hike at the June 10 meeting. The 150-basis-point differential favors the dollar, and the trajectories are diverging further.

Canada's fundamentals are softening underneath. Q1 GDP contracted 0.1%, following a 1.0% Q4 decline — Canada is now in a technical recession. Higher fuel costs are producing the fastest rise in operating costs in four years. The BoC has signaled patience while the Fed is leaning toward action.
