Nasdaq Is Now Under Pressure as AI Selloff Goes Global
Yesterday’s hot CPI lit the fuse. Higher rates raise the cost of financing the AI buildout and servicing the debt behind it, and that’s finally biting. The pain started overseas. Korea’s Kospi plunged almost 8%, its seventh straight drop btw. The Nikkei followed and fell 5%. $TSMC flagged caution even while posting record profits, and CoreWeave got hammered again after a 15% drop Wednesday.
The Nasdaq broke below 30,000, and I'm now looking to see if 28,000 acts as support, where the 200-day moving average is creeping up.
You’re also seeing a flee to bonds. TLT is catching a strong bid today and yields are dropping worldwide as money is moving to safety.
I won’t call this a crash, because it isn’t one yet. But this could be the start of an AI-trade unwind, or at least a repricing of what that trade is worth at these rates.

The Setup That Could Flip Gold Bullish
The driver behind gold is starting to change.
Gold is really four trades: rates, currency, central-bank reserves, and fear. The one in control right now is rates, however it may start to change.
Wednesday’s CPI ran hot, which should pressure gold through higher-for-longer rates. But this week the cracks showed up in growth, hiring and small-business sales are softening even as retail sales and factory output hold. If growth breaks while inflation stays sticky, the macro environment starts leaning more to stagflation.
Why that matters for gold: if growth rolls over, the Fed can’t keep hiking into a slowdown. Hike bets come out, real yields fall, and the rates trade flips from working against gold to pushing it up.
This same mechanism drove gold in the 1970s.
To be clear the setup isn't here yet. But now my attention shifts to: soft growth data, PMIs, GDP, retail sales.

Gold 4H chart:
In my opinion, there is no need to overthink this.
Price action is ranging. Let's wait for a breakout - especially if it coincides with a catalyst like soft jobs data or growth data.
For now I remain neutral and waiting for a more clear signal.
it is easy during these range bound environments to give back profits!

Gold: Buy or Sell?!
Gold is untradeable right now, and I’d rather say that than force a trade.
Last week we got two hot inflation prints, CPI and PPI. That should have pushed gold to new lows, yet it didn’t. Gold held its range, which tells you something is supporting it underneath.
What’s supporting it is growth worry. Softer growth is bullish for gold. However, that growth deterioration isn’t confirmed yet. In fact, we saw solid Retail Sales last week right after the two red hot inflation prints.
So you’ve got a hot-inflation bearish catalyst pulling one way and an unconfirmed growth-fear bullish catalyst pulling the other.
The EdgeFinder reads neutral on gold. The price action says the same thing. We’re still boxed between 4,220 resistance and 4,120 support.
I'm watching forward rate expectations after the October Fed meeting and growth data. If growth starts slowing, I look for bullish setups.
