๐ŸŽฏA journey toward a new way of seeing things

โœ… FEP Fellow Bahriddin Gapporov from Namangan State University is currently being hosted by the University of Wisconsin โ€“ Eau Claire โ€“ where he feels at home as he connects with academic staff and student organizations, learns about the best food in town, and does one of his favorite sports โ€“ rock climbing.

๐Ÿ”–As Bahriddin notes, heavy snow and cold weather of Wisconsin haven't kept him from enjoying the university life to the fullest. Thanks to class observation and professors' support, Bahriddin learns with the latest methods and practices in use, not to mention a great many spectacular events he has been actively partaking in!

๐Ÿ“Besides methodological and cultural support, he was given a personal office. Bahriddin says: โ€œThis simple act of paying positive attention to people has a great deal to do with productivity.โ€ He continues: โ€œFEP is an opportunity to see something new, and to see something in a new wayโ€.

๐Ÿ†โ€œCollaboration Makes Us Betterโ€

๐Ÿ“ŒOver the past year, Washington State University (WSU), Urgench State University (UrSU), and Kostanay Regional University worked on the joint UniCEN Project โ€œSTEM Environmental Technologies Courses for Investigation of Water Flow in the Aral Sea Basin.โ€

โœ…In order to ensure the sustainability of the project, Dr. Gayrat Urazboev from UrSU and Dr. Sergey Lapin from WSU held a series of Zoom calls to discuss a planned student exchange during the summer of 2023. They also planned for a short course focused on the โ€œFinite Element Methodโ€ to be taught during the spring of 2023 by Dr. Lapin to students of UrSU online.

๐Ÿ”ธHaving secured funding for research-related travel from WSU, Dr. Lapin plans to visit UrSU later this year. It is also planned to organize a student exchange program between Urgench State and Washington State.

๐Ÿ”–Washington State and Urgench State believe that individual commitment to a group effort is what has ensured the success of their partnership.

The way forward is by building a strong network!

๐Ÿ“Œ Recently, FEP fellows participated in the American Language Program Conference on Assessment for Learning โ€“ organized by Columbia University.

โœ… The conference proved to be very informative for FEP fellows, who gained experience related to assessing students' writing, listening and pronunciation skills. FEP Fellow Munojat Sultonova from Fergana State University, notes that the conference provided great context about the difficulty of assessment: "As teaching, assessment, and curriculum are connected with each other, we should work hard at assessment aimed at improving curriculum. Assessing students' language skills should be valid, fair, just, and for the purpose of learning".
