🏆“Collaboration Makes Us Better”

📌Over the past year, Washington State University (WSU), Urgench State University (UrSU), and Kostanay Regional University worked on the joint UniCEN Project “STEM Environmental Technologies Courses for Investigation of Water Flow in the Aral Sea Basin.”

✅In order to ensure the sustainability of the project, Dr. Gayrat Urazboev from UrSU and Dr. Sergey Lapin from WSU held a series of Zoom calls to discuss a planned student exchange during the summer of 2023. They also planned for a short course focused on the “Finite Element Method” to be taught during the spring of 2023 by Dr. Lapin to students of UrSU online.

🔸Having secured funding for research-related travel from WSU, Dr. Lapin plans to visit UrSU later this year. It is also planned to organize a student exchange program between Urgench State and Washington State.

🔖Washington State and Urgench State believe that individual commitment to a group effort is what has ensured the success of their partnership.

The way forward is by building a strong network!

📌 Recently, FEP fellows participated in the American Language Program Conference on Assessment for Learning – organized by Columbia University.

✅ The conference proved to be very informative for FEP fellows, who gained experience related to assessing students' writing, listening and pronunciation skills. FEP Fellow Munojat Sultonova from Fergana State University, notes that the conference provided great context about the difficulty of assessment: "As teaching, assessment, and curriculum are connected with each other, we should work hard at assessment aimed at improving curriculum. Assessing students' language skills should be valid, fair, just, and for the purpose of learning".

🔸The Faculty Enrichment Program is administered by American Councils and supported by the U.S. Embassy Tashkent. For more information visit https://fep.americancouncils.org

📝FEP: If knowledge is not put into practice, it does not benefit anyone

✅Meet Shokirjon Sunnatulloev – an FEP Fellow from Navoi State University of Mines and Technology currently being hosted by West Virginia University!

🔖During his fellowship, he observed and participated in lab sessions related to coal preparation and analysis. He has also participated in the 2023 Society for Mining, Metallurgy, and Exploration (SME) Annual Conference and Exposition.

🔸The SME Annual Conference and Expo are one of the world’s largest and most important conferences related to mining and minerals.

📌During the conference, Shokirjon had the opportunity to test a mining equipment simulator and network with top academics, industry experts, and investors.

💥In reflecting on his FEP experience thus far, Shokirjon says: “Practice is learning. Active practice, meanwhile, is one of the greatest forms of learning, because the mistakes you make while practicing reveal important insights”.
