The situation in Sumy is this. Russia is quietly busy creating problems for the Ukrainian continent in and around the city.
Logistics are now being taken out (Fuel stations, Nova Poshta's, Railway infrastructure, command centres etc). Interestingly, many city fuel stations are being spared for now. To the north of the city, Russian forces are closing in, in the forest north of Sumy they are within a few kilometres of the northern parts of the city. Some people near the area tell me less than 5km to the city outskirts. I have no way of verification, and neither do the residents, but the sounds are getting much nearer.
Ukraine can and will put up a performance for the media, and they will have successful drone strikes , but in reality apart from parts of Zaporozhye, they are in a slow retreat.
Anyway, back to Sumy, every day now, when visiting my agricultural land, I pick up a lot of small metal balls, and I mean a lot, this never happened before, but everywhere is covered in it. I suspect some anti-aircraft systems, but I'm not a weapons expert.
Sumy in my opinion, is now definitely on the Russian target list, the city is low, and very centrally located on the Kiev-Kharkov and Chernihiv - Kharkov lines.
There's no time frame, who knows, but my gut feeling is that the ground is being prepared, and it's definitely getting much louder.

During the night, a Russian MiG-31K fighter jet launched a Kinzhal hypersonic aeroballistic missile from southwestern Ryazan Oblast towards Vinnytsia Oblast.
Ukrainian radars failed to detect the missile until it reached Vinnytsia Oblast. A distant explosion was then heard from the cities of Vinnytsia and Nemyriv, however this could be attributed to a mach cone being formed from it flying faster than the speed of sound.
Nevertheless, the location it was detected by radars flying to (Voronovytsya), and the fact that distant explosions were heard in Vinnytsia and Nemyriv, lines up almost perfectly with the 750 kV Vinnytsia electrical substation. The issue is, no power outages were reported, but this could be due to the missile missing the substation with its low CEP when flying this far.
It remains to be seen what this missile actually targeted.

Keep in mind the Russian goal is not to capture Sumy, but rather continue inflicting successful attrition on Ukrainian forces to stretch them thin and create pressure on defences.

As with any sector of the frontline. Advances come as a biproduct of successful attrition, not the other way around. One of the biggest misconceptions of this war is people seeing X amount of territory be captured by either side and only use that as a way to determine levels of success.

Here is a more likely target for last night's Kinzhal strike in Vinnytsia Oblast: the natural gas compressor station on the Uzhhorod-Urengoy gas line.
During the night, a distant explosion was heard in the cities of Vinnytsia, Nemyriv, and Turbiv. The missile was detected flying towards the city of Voronovytsya, which lines up well with this gas facility and the launch lines in eastern Tambov Oblast.
Additionally, other gas related targets were attacked by Geran-2 drones during the night, further supporting this theory.
For now, this remains unconfirmed, but it seems much more likely than the electrical substation.
