Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone: Adani Ports and Gadot Group has completed the acquisition of Haifa Port Company from the Government of Israel. The consortium had won the bid for HPC, at an offer price of $1.18 billion during July 2022. The concession period of the port is up to 2054.

PC Jeweller: During the quarter ended December 2022, the company recorded a domestic turnover of Rs 829.10 crore as compared to the turnover of Rs 600.18 crore in the corresponding quarter of the previous year, indicating a growth of more than 38 percent. It has also opened a new franchisee showroom at Katihar (Bihar) during the quarter.

Uttam Sugar Mills: The company has increased its distillery capacity (ethanol) from 150 KLPD to 250 KLPD at Barkartpur plant. Considering the government's policy and increased demand for ethanol at the national level, it has decided to increase the distillery capacity. It has also increased the cane crushing capacity from 23,750 TCD to 26,200 TCD.

Tata Motors: Subsidiary Tata Passenger Electric Mobility has completed the acquisition of Sanand property and the VM plant and machinery of Ford India. Both companies had executed a Unit Transfer Agreement in August 2022 for the acquisition of Ford India's manufacturing plant at Sanand, Gujarat, for Rs 725.7 crore.

Bank of Baroda: The public sector lender has hiked the marginal cost of funds-based lending rate (MCLR) by up to 35 bps across tenors. The rate hike will be effective from January 12.

Cupid: The company has received an order from United Nations Population Fund for the supply of male condoms and water-based lubricant worth Rs 5.21 crore. The said order will be executed by June 2023.

Hindustan Unilever: The FMCG major has completed the acquisition of 51 percent shareholding of Zywie for Rs 264.28 crore for the first tranche. With this, Zywie Ventures has become a subsidiary of the company.

State Bank of India: The Central government extended the term of office of Challa Sreenivasulu Setty as Managing Director of the country's largest lender for a period of two years with effect from January 20, 2023.

Route Mobile: The communication platform as a service provider has signed an exclusive SMS firewall solution and connectivity service agreement with a leading mobile network operator (MNO) in Sri Lanka. The company will provide an end-to-end A2P monetization suite for all international A2P SMS' terminating on its network. Route Mobile will serve as the exclusive partner of the MNO for 2 years.

Bilcare: Rekha Jhunjhunwala has offloaded a 6.24 percent stake in Bilcare via open market transactions during January 10-11. With this, her shareholding in the company reduced to 0.106 percent, from 6.347 percent earlier.

5paisa Capital: The financial products provider has reported a 2.5 percent sequential increase in consolidated profit after tax at Rs 11.02 crore for the quarter ended December FY23. Consolidated revenue from operations at Rs 83.76 crore for the quarter grew by 5.3 percent QoQ. Consolidated profit at Rs 29.15 crore increased by 212 percent for nine months period ended December FY23 YoY, backed by improvement in quality of acquisition, reduction in CAC, focus on technology and providing superior trading platforms to customers. Revenue during the same period grew by 18.5 percent to Rs 247.3 crore.

Government to sell 5-year, 10-year green bonds on Jan 25 and Feb 9.

The sovereign green bonds will be used for mobilising resources for green infrastructure and the proceeds deployed in public sector projects.

Most IMP to note:
The sovereign green bonds will be eligible for trading in the secondary market and will be designated as specified securities under the ‘Fully Accessible Route’ for investment by NRI’s (non-residents). Securities which are listed under the RBI’s ‘Fully Accessible Route’ do not have any limit on overseas investment.

Worldwide, Interest offered by green bonds to investors is lower than other debt instruments issued by Govt.

INDIA retained its position as the world's top recipient of remittances.

World Bank report which had said India will be the first country in the world to receive $ 100 billion from remittances during 2022. Though remittances to the rest of the South Asian countries declined by 10 per cent, they rose by 12 per cent in India’s case.

■ Nirmala Sitaraman described NRIs as the“real ambassadors of India” and appealed to them to use made in India products and services as far as possible so that the country’s individual brand can be promoted across the globe.
■ With a sum of more than $100 billion, India inflows are far higher than Mexico ($60 billion), China ($51 billion), the Philippines ($38 billion), Egypt ($32 billion) and Pakistan ($29 billion).
■ India remains on track to become the world’s largest recipient of remittances. The remittances make up almost 3% of India’s GDP.
■ Skilled workers from India as well as migrant workers moved not only to low-skilled, informal employment in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries for employment but also to high-income countries like the United States, United Kingdom and Asia-Pacific countries such as Singapore, Japan, Australia and New Zealand.

For the current year too, India’s inbound remittances will continue to rise, as the South Asia region has one of the lowest transaction costs in the world. Globally, the average cost of sending $ 200 was 6 per but it was the cheapest to send money to South Asia (4.3 per cent) and most expensive to send to Sub-Saharan Africa (7.8 per cent).
