#BREAKING #NEWS !
#Debt #mutual #funds bought after #April 1st, 2023 & held for over 3 yrs, will NO longer enjoy #indexation benefit NOR will be eligible for 20% #tax rate.
Brings bank FDs on-par with debt MFs.
A big positive for banks.
Debt mutual funds bought after April 1st, 2023 & held for over 3 years, will no longer enjoy indexation benefit nor will be eligible for long term capital gain tax (20% tax rate). View: Currently, investors in debt funds pay income tax on capital gains according to their income tax slab for a holding period of three years and after that, they are taxed at the rate of 20% with indexation benefits or 10% without indexation. This amendment in the recent Finance bill 2023 brings bank FDs on-par with debt MFs. The proposal is likely to give a boost to bank fixed deposits & also pure equity funds and do away with the arbitrage between different debt instruments. The objective is to plug a tax loophole used by high net worth individuals and family offices for investments. This is positive for banks and negative for AMCs.

*Indiaโs โMake in Indiaโ Smartphones Dominate Exports; Apple leads as Indiaโs mobile exports set to top $10 billion in FY22-23*
https://www.google.com/amp/s/m.economictimes.com/industry/cons-products/electronics/india-to-cross-10-bn-worth-mobile-exports-in-fy22-23-apple-leads-at-50/amp_articleshow/98909465.cms
*India is poised to achieve an impressive $10 billion worth of smartphone exports in the current fiscal year.*
*This is due to the governmentโs attractive incentives for local manufacturing. The smartphone industry in India is thriving as a result, with companies like Samsung, Apple, and Xiaomi ramping up production in the country.*
โ India has more than 260 units manufacturing mobile phones and accessories today, while it had only two units operational in 2014.
โ Appleโs โMake in Indiaโ smartphones have taken the lead in exports, constituting 50% of total exports.
โ Samsung follows with 40% of mobile exports, while other smartphone players hold 10% of the export share.
โ Some new reforms and practices have boosted uptake in local manufacturing of mobile phones in India. These moves have massively reduced countryโs dependence on China.
โ Indiaโs smartphone exports have doubled from the previous fiscal year, thanks to production-linked incentive (PLI) schemes
โ UAE, US, Netherlands, UK, and Italy are the top 5 destinations for Indian mobile phone exports.
โ Apple is set to move some of its China manufacturing to India and Vietnam within the next few years. By 2027, itโs predicted that India will produce 45-50% of Appleโs iPhones, putting it on par with China, where 80-85% of iPhones were produced in 2022.
โ India and Vietnam are expected to be the biggest beneficiaries of smartphone supply chain migration out of China, with India currently accounting for 10-15% of overall iPhone production capacity as of the end of 2022.
โ Apple has set a new record in India by becoming the first smartphone company to export $1 billion worth of iPhones in the month of December. The tech giant currently manufactures iPhones 12, 13, 14 and 14 Plus in India, which is largely export-focused and led by the governmentโs performance-linked scheme (PLI) push.
โ The government is also working to strengthen the electronic manufacturing ecosystem beyond mobiles to boost its global share in hearables and wearables, IT hardware and electronic components. With this move, India is positioning itself as a major player in the global electronics market.
*Efficacy and maturity of an industry is only judged with robust exports. Mobile phones policy and outreach initiatives have been relentless and the results are in front of us. The mobile phone industry will cross $40 billion manufacturing output and 25 per cent exports at $10 billion is a stellar performance.*

The Economic Times
India to cross $10 bn worth mobile exports in FY22-23, Apple leads at 50%
Buoyed by attractive government incentives towards local manufacturing, India is all set to reach a remarkable $10 billion (over Rs 82,000 crore) worth smartphone exports in the fiscal year ending March 31, industry data showed on Wednesday.
Namaste,
US equities closed mixed with bank stocks jumping after First Citizens BancShares bought a large portion of the assets and deposits of collapsed SVB and on signs that the turmoil in the sector is easing. Dow closed with gains of close to 0.60%, S&P also closed marginally higher by 0.16% and Nasdaq lost 0.47% as 10 year yields spiked.
USD index fell near 102.83, 10 year jumped near 3.53% and cboe vix fell near 20.60.
Crude prices moved up sharply after Iraq's export halt from some area and easing banking crisis fears lifted sentiments, WTI traded above 72, Brent above 78.
Indian markets managed to halt two days of losses as stocks recovered some ground, however the trading remained volatile as at higher levels stocks found some resistance and failed to move further. Sensex gained 127 points and Nifty came near 17000 at close. Pharma, FMCG and some PSU banks led the recovery on Dalal Street as money continued to search for safety in an otherwise volatile market.
*Better global equity sentiments, tomorrow's quadruple witching day volatility and fiscal year-end consideration may dominate trade for next two days on Dalal Street. Participants may continue to rotate positions for next few sessions and once markets stabilize one may start building positions for a more linear trend.*
