Corsican Freedom, Baku Office
France's Senate blocked Corsican autonomy. The Baku Initiative Group (BIG) promptly opened the complaints desk, accusing Paris of a "colonial mindset."
Senators first struck the recognition of an "island community" and narrowed the proposed powers, then voted 181 to 134 against the constitutional bill.
The compromise had passed the Corsican Assembly in 2024 and France's National Assembly in June 2026. Two autonomist parties have now withdrawn from the negotiating process.
BIG director Abbas Abbasov blamed the Macron administration. The failure is real, but Macron proposed the autonomy plan, and the Senate, where his opponents hold the majority, voted it down.
Baku's statement folds competing actors into one convenient villain.
VIGINUM, France's agency against foreign digital interference, describes BIG as an Azerbaijani state propaganda outlet.
The agency's report also quotes President Ilham Aliyev calling the group "our child."
Corsicans have a real grievance. They have also acquired an unsolicited foreign representative whose parentage is far better documented than its mandate.

War, after the midterms
Gulf states have been told to prepare for a “short, intense” renewal of the war. American voters get to cast their ballots first.
The Trump administration has warned several Gulf Arab states of a possible campaign against Iran after the Nov. 3 midterms, The Wall Street Journal reports.
U.S. forces are replenishing munitions and preparing bombers and fighters. Trump is leaning toward a large attack on Iranian infrastructure and nuclear sites but has not authorized it.
The reported objective is to weaken Tehran and push it into negotiations. Gulf governments must also prepare for Iran’s response: Tehran has threatened retaliation against regional economic and civilian infrastructure.
The warning gives Washington another lever of diplomatic pressure and gives Iran’s neighbors reason to check their air defenses.
The nuclear picture is far from clear-cut. IAEA chief Rafael Grossi told the Security Council that his agency has detected no rebuilding of facilities damaged in the 2025 and 2026 strikes.
Iran still denies inspectors access to the bombed sites. Satellite monitoring, the agency stresses, cannot replace inspections.
Trump has said he will not strike before the midterms. Asked about an attack afterward, he replied, “Anything is possible.” The military decision remains open. The election calendar, by contrast, is explicit.

The majority that kept moving
Israel’s election-night television offered several governments. The count has yet to confirm any of them.
Kan’s opening exit poll gave Gadi Eisenkot’s bloc 53 seats, Netanyahu’s 50, and the Arab parties 17. Channel 14 gave Netanyahu 60, Eisenkot’s camp 43, and the Arab parties 17. Same electorate, a 10-seat gap for the incumbent’s bloc. A majority requires 61.
For both main blocs, the actual count landed between the two. At 51.8% counted, Netanyahu’s bloc stood at 55 seats, Eisenkot’s at 49, and the Arab parties at 16. Later Wednesday, with roughly 85% counted, projections put them at 53, 48, and 19. These remain provisional allocations, not a final result.
Turnout reached 77.7%, up 7.1 percentage points from 2022. Hundreds of thousands of double-envelope ballots, cast by soldiers, diplomats, and others voting away from their home polling stations, remain to be counted.
Television graphics tend to blur a simple distinction: leading your rival is not the same as holding a majority. Netanyahu’s camp is ahead. Eisenkot’s camp could reach 61 only with Arab partners.
Neither camp has a signed government hiding inside a colored bar. The price of a majority is still to be negotiated.

😚Three suspects, every ballot
Police found envelopes of cash. Right-wing politicians demanded that an entire party’s votes be set aside.
Three Negev residents were arrested on suspicion of planning to pay voters to back Ra’am. Searches turned up tens of thousands of shekels in envelopes, along with written notes and other material that police suspect is linked to attempted vote buying.
On Wednesday, Otzma Yehudit MK Yitzhak Kroizer, joined by Ministers Amichai Chikli and Amichai Eliyahu and MK Simcha Rothman, called on Central Elections Committee chairman Noam Sohlberg and Shin Bet chief David Zini to open an urgent investigation. They also demanded that every vote for Ra’am be disqualified pending clarification.
The letter goes on to make allegations involving fuel vouchers, gift cards, and an official of Aid 48, [short description]. Those claims need to be investigated, not treated as established fact. No decision to disqualify Ra’am’s votes wholesale has been announced.
Buying votes would corrupt the election. Disqualifying every Ra’am ballot before establishing who paid whom would distort the result more efficiently than any bribe: wholesale disenfranchisement, no envelopes required.
