🇾🇪⚔️🇾🇪 Latest Military Situation Map on the Taiz Front

The breakthrough south of the city of Taiz by Ansarallah towards the town of Al-Turbah continues. Houthi troops are 16km away from fully encircling the large PLC garrison stuck in the Taiz salient.

The PLC is operationally encircled with troop transfers between the garrison defending Taiz and surrounding towns and villages and the rest of the PLC territory currently impossible as all major roads leading towards Taizz are under Ansarallah control or fire control.

The map is likely outdated already as Houthi forces have reportedly reached the town of Al-Turbah.

🇺🇸🇸🇦🇾🇪⚡️ — The U.S. is not planning direct military action against the Houthis (Ansarallah) for now, despite repeated Saudi requests for American airstrikes, according to Axios.

Saudi Defense Minister Prince Khalid bin Salman called Secretary of War Pete Hegseth on Thursday to brief him on the Saudi operation against the Houthis and again request U.S. strikes.

CENTCOM has opposed direct involvement, viewing a new campaign in Yemen as a distraction from its focus on Iran.

A U.S. official said the decision could change if the Saudi operation runs into problems.

🇪🇹 🇪🇹 🇪🇷 Ethiopian National Defence Forces (ENDF) entered Mekelle, Tigray’s capital, yesterday morning after advancing via towns to its south, including Adi Gudom. In Afar, their counteroffensive has recaptured Abala and Erebti, reversing almost all gains…
🇸🇩🇪🇷🇪🇹🇪🇹🇪🇹⚔️🇪🇹🇸🇩 4 years after the Tigray war ended (600k dead), a new war started in northern Ethiopia. Federal forces seized Mekele, the capital of the Tigray region and continue to move northward.

At the same time, the new alliance between Tigray, Amhara Fano forces, Oromo resistance (and Eritrea), is launching many attacks against Ethiopian forces. In 2020 the TPLF retreated to the countryside and mountains, before launching a large counter-offensive liberating most of the Tigray region and reaching Dessie a year later and threatening to march upon Addis Ababa. Thus, the decision to abandon their capital city could be a strategy for later, as the ENDF has heavy armour and air support and the TPLF would likely not survive a pitched battle.

At the same time, important pressure is being put by Tigray forces from the region and the ones living in Sudan (Army 70) on the Welkait front, a disputed region of North-West Ethiopia under ENDF control. The Sudanese Armed Forces are allied with Tigray and Eritrea in this region.

This also explains why Ethiopia is allowing the Rapid Support Forces (Sudanese paramilitary) to use its territory to advance in Blue Nile state in southern Sudan, using its territory. Tensions between Sudan and Ethiopia are very high and cross border fighting between rebel groups and government forces are happening very often.

🇪🇬🇸🇩🇪🇷🇸🇴⚔️🇪🇹 Egyptian president, Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, invited the presidents of Sudan, Eritrea and Somalia to a summit in New Alamein, to discuss "consultation and coordination on regional issues of mutual concern”.

All 4 countries have, for different reasons, bones to pick with Ethiopia. Egyptian-Ethiopian issues soured over the last decade over the construction of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam which Egyptian officials feared would reduce the water volume of the Nile River and threaten the livelihoods of the 100 million Egyptians.

Egypt has stationed troops in Somalia to the anger of Ethiopia and in 2024 signed a defense pact with Mogadishu and earlier this year, Cairo increased its participation in the African Union's Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM).

Sudan shares Egypt's concerns over the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam affecting the water volume of the Nile River but a more pressing issue for Khartoum is the Ethiopian involvement in the Sudanese Civil War on the side of the Rapid Support Forces. In 2020-2021, Sudan and Ethiopia fought a small-scale war over the Al-Fashaga District and due to the ongoing Tigray War, Sudan came out victorious.

Eritrea feels threatened by Ethiopia's desire to gain a port and access to the global ocean while Somalia has a century old dispute with Ethiopia over the ethnically Somali region of Ogaden that was annexed by the Ethiopian Empire in the latter half of the 19th century with multiple wars fought between Ethiopia and Somalia since the 1960s over it.

🇹🇯🤝🇮🇷 Tajikistan starts taking Iranian oil as Russian fuel supply falters

Tajikistan began receiving Iranian oil and petroleum products in late August, its energy ministry said, RFE/RL reported on October 2.

The ministry has not disclosed the extent of the shipments, their commercial terms or how the supplies were transported to Tajikistan, according to Asia-Plus.

Russia supplied more than 91% of Tajik petroleum imports in the first half of the year, but Ukrainian drone strikes on refineries have curbed Moscow's exports and created a fuel shortage across Central Asia. Dushanbe has asked Iran for up to 2.55mn tonnes a year of crude and refined products, including diesel and jet fuel, as Russia's crisis enters a third wave.

The purchases expose Tajik buyers to US sanctions. Washington launched Operation Economic Outcast on August 24 to cut Iran's remaining revenue, and US Treasury spokeswoman Gigi O'Connell said anyone operating in Iran's oil sector bears that risk themselves if they continue.

Edward Lemon, president of the Oxus Society for Central Asian Affairs, was quoted by RFE/RL as saying that relations between Dushanbe and Tehran are warming. Tajik political analyst Parviz Mullojonov told the publication that maintaining a diplomatic balance is "incredibly difficult" because global powers hold conflicting agendas.

Bilateral trade reached $438mn in 2025, up 28% year-on-year, and the two countries have signed more than 200 agreements and memorandums.

👨‍🌾 🇺🇸 🚷 A think tank co-founded by Facebook’s founding president wants an entirely new visa category to repopulate struggling American communities with foreign workers.

It’s called the Heartland VISA.

They’ve already mapped roughly 1,700 potentially eligible counties—home to 58 million Americans.

The Economic Innovation Group, co-founded by Sean Parker, wants at least 100,000 visas a year.

The pitch is explicit:

“In exchange for living in a Heartland Visa community, workers with sufficient earnings will gain permanent residency”

American communities become the destination. Green cards become the incentive.

The proposal targets places struggling with population decline, including rural communities and former industrial centers.

Foreign workers would have to live in a participating area—but could work for an employer located elsewhere.

The think tank also proposes replacing labor certification with an earnings test for the green-card pathway. That would remove the usual labor-market test from this proposed route to permanent residency.

The idea has already reached Capitol Hill.

Republican Senator Todd Young and then-Senator Joe Manchin introduced a version in December 2024. Supporters included AOL co-founder Steve Case, Americans for Prosperity and the Niskanen Center.

County officials would decide whether their communities participate.

EIG continued lobbying for the proposal in 2026.

This is an organized push to turn population decline into a justification for a new immigration program.

🇨🇦 🇺🇸 🇨🇦 A Michigan delegation travelled to Calgary to sell separatists on software developed for Republicans to get out the vote – and how it could be used to wrench Alberta from Confederation.

For David Parker, an organizer for Alberta separation, the software was the path to victory – one that ultimately resulted in a massive privacy breach involving the sensitive personal data of nearly three million Albertans.

But Parker’s embrace of the Michigan delegation is evidence of a pattern: separatist factions in Alberta eager to engage the U.S. in their plans for secession, and American actors willing to assist, either privately or openly.

Through interviews with The Globe on both sides of the border, people involved in politics, the corporate sector and Alberta’s pursuit of separatism have described persistent efforts by figures in the U.S. administration and conservative political establishment to support groups seeking American expansionism and independence for Alberta.
