🇮🇩🚫⛽️ Fuel crisis hits Indonesia’s Bali, triggers long lines in gas stations for days

Long lines of vehicles snaked outside gas stations across Indonesia’s resort island of Bali this week after fuel deliveries were disrupted by a combination of technical problems, bad weather and surging demand, officials said Wednesday.

On the tourism-dependent island, motorcycles and cars waited outside stations and spilled onto nearby roads as motorists scrambled for fuel. The lines have been reported since Sunday.

Officials stressed that the shortages were caused by domestic distribution problems rather than a lack of fuel supplies or turmoil in global energy markets.

“This is purely a distribution issue,” said Laode Sulaeman, director-general of oil and gas at the Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry. “A fuel tanker was delayed, but it has now arrived and 24-hour deliveries have been underway since yesterday.”

Sulaeman said that a tanker carrying fuel to Bali suffered an anchor problem while preparing to unload cargo, delaying deliveries to the island’s main fuel terminals. Rough seas and bad weather also slowed shipments to the Sanggaran terminal in Denpasar and the Manggis terminal in eastern Bali.

The disruption was compounded by strong demand for government-subsidized Pertalite gasoline, which is significantly cheaper than nonsubsidized fuel. Panic-buying by motorists worried about shortages further strained supplies at some stations.

At several gas stations, attendants posted signs reading, “Sorry, no fuel available,” while drivers and motorcyclists waited outside closed facilities for new deliveries. The shortages have frustrated residents and business owners on the resort island, where transportation is critical for daily life and tourism.

🇮🇱🗳 Israeli firm BlackCore suspected of meddling in New York and Scotland votes, France says Israeli firm BlackCore, suspected of interfering in ‌France's local elections in March, is also suspected of meddling in elections in New York City and Scotland,…
🇮🇱🔍📲 Adblockers are more important than ever: Israeli firm used online ads to run vast spy operation, researchers say

Israeli digital advertising agency Discover-Tech spied on internet users through a sprawling network of online ads that it used to track targets and help hack their devices, two research groups said on Thursday.

Its services gave Israel's Candiru — a spyware company blacklisted by the US government — as ‌well as other Israeli surveillance firms access to advertising platforms run by Google, Comcast, Russia's Yandex and others, according to separate, opens new tab reports, opens new tab from Canadian cyber watchdog group Citizen Lab and New York advertising security firm Confiant.

The reports show how the online advertising business, long a subject of privacy concerns, can also serve as a channel for sweeping espionage campaigns.

"The way online advertising works today is a systemic security threat," Wolfie Christl, a senior researcher at Citizen Lab, told Reuters. "For states, the private sector, civil society and everyone else alike."

Discover-Tech's online ads — often for ordinary products such as phones or earbuds — reached more than 120,000 websites and 75,000 apps through its various partnerships, Citizen Lab said.

Users who visited sites or used apps with the malicious ads could be identified and tracked by Discover-Tech, which would sometimes also try to extract phone numbers from some smartphone users, the researchers said. Ads only needed to load on a website for the spying to occur.

Some ads would be used to help plant spyware from Candiru on users' devices, both research groups said, though Confiant said that ads it tied to Candiru were a tiny fraction of Discover-Tech's overall volume.

Confiant cofounder Jerome Dangu said Discover-Tech was pumping out at least 10 million ads per day all around the world and that data-sharing arrangements — called cookie matching — allowed it to track people even beyond the reach of its advertisements.

"Very likely hundreds of millions of people would have been touched by Discover-Tech," Dangu said.

Citizen Lab said a powerful form of Candiru spyware delivered through Discover-Tech's ads had been used to compromise 45 Windows devices at the Qatari broadcaster Al Jazeera between 2024 and 2025, something it said it was able to confirm because the media group had shared its network logs with the group.

Dangu of Confiant said that the malicious ads had been shown to users in "hundreds of networks in sensitive categories," including the Pentagon, the International Atomic Energy Agency, and the International Criminal Court. He also said that some regions, like the Palestinian territories, were particularly saturated by the Israeli firm's ads.

"You go to almost any site in Palestine — any site — you find a Discover-Tech ad. It gives them a very complete visibility on the digital activities of an entire country," he said.

Citizen Lab also said it had similar evidence showing the malicious ads were shown to people in the United Nations, NATO, the European Commission, and more than a dozen national governments. Other networks the ads appeared in included chip-related firms such as Nvidia, Sandisk, Broadcom, and Micron as well as several media organizations in Mexico, Israel, and Europe that were not identified.

🚢 Tanker Rates Soar to Record as Oil Crisis Becomes Shipping Crisis Supertanker rates hit a record $1.4 million per day on Persian Gulf–Asia routes, surging 40% in the first week of October amid the Iran war. Ship-to-ship transfers near Hormuz are tying…
🚢 Wars in the Persian Gulf, Black and Arabian Seas are tying up way too many ships causing fuel shortages across the globe.

Global fuel oil supply is shrinking while demand for the fuel from the shipping industry remains robust, suggesting further supply pain down the road.

Exports of high-sulfur fuel oil from the Middle East are running at a rate that is at least 800,000 tons a month lower than it was before the war, the head of Asian operations at Vitol said at an industry event.

“Producers are paying higher freight rates and more risk premiums to shuttle cargoes out of Hormuz, recognising the importance of oil revenues to their national budgets,” Kieran Gallagher said, as quoted by Reuters. The risk premium for those exports remains considerable, fueling uncertainty about future supply from the region.

Fuel oil is standard for the shipping industry, but recently, some refiners in Asia have started switching from crude oil to high-sulfur fuel oil as feedstock, Gallagher said, amid the disruption of Saudi exports from the Red Sea. These refiners have snapped cargoes totalling some 1 million tons for November delivery, the executive said.

Further complicating the fuel oil situation, Ukrainian drone attacks on Russian refineries have further crimped supply. Vitol’s Gallagher estimated that loss at some 1 million tons per month.

“The key lies in replacing fuel oil with crude as a refinery feedstock,” he said. However, this remains a challenge due to the above-mentioned shipping risks in the Strait of Hormuz. As a result, the premium for the fuel oil used in commercial shipping on the spot market has reached almost $50 per ton, up from $5.10 per ton in late February, Reuters reported, citing LSEG data.

Over the past couple of days, a fuel shortage developed in the resort city of Bali, Indonesia, due to an oil tanker arriving late in port.

Authorities in Switzerland are releasing jet fuel from their emergency stocks to prevent a fuel shortage caused by drought in the Rhine river valley and train delays in Germany.

The fuel shortage is much worse felt across Subsaharan Africa. In Malawi, the government is short on foreign currency and the rise in oil prices make it difficult to find a cheap and consistent supply of fuel.

South Africa who is undergoing a process of deindustrialization became this year particularly exposed to energy shocks like the one caused by the wars in the Middle East. The country became a net importer of fuel when just as late as 7 years ago it was not. South Africa currently produces about 39% of its fuel demand domestically, including Sasol, which is a significant decrease from 78% in 2019. The country imports approximately 61% of its refined fuel products. South Africa has just 6.9 million barrels left of oil in its petroleum reserve meaning that if oil tankers stop coming, the country will be out of fuel.

In Mozambique, the fuel crisis is preventing many fishermen from going out to sea due to a lack of fuel.

In Kenya, rising fuel prices added a new grievance to the long list of other grievances the people hold against the Kenyan government causing widespread riots earlier this year.

Libya, Sudan, Eritrea and Ethiopia continue to be gripped by localised fuel shortages related to the ongoing conflicts in their respective countries and made worse by the rising oil prices, globally.

We see what's happening in Spain. Some politicians are willing to replace their own population with migrants just to stay in office and remain in government.

I'm convinced that for some of these countries, it's already too late.

Maybe one day we will have to defend our borders to prevent migrants from Western countries from coming here, if this continues. And of course, we are preparing for that.

The 17th October was heralded online as the revival of the Yellow Vests and the transition of the riots from localized violent outbursts to a nationwide movement about grievances. For now, it is a complete failure, with less than 180k protesters expected across the nation. The left's documented interference has prevented the reemergence of a massive apolitical anti-Macron movement.
