U.S. Ambassador to Türkiye Tom Barrack:

The Rubik's Cube effect of the unintended consequences of all around us is like raising a teenage child and saying, "Okay, you're going to have to take more regional responsibility yourself. We're going to help you, but now you're an adult. Let's figure out a way to cooperate with each other."

Russia is reportedly building an over-the-horizon radar in Kaliningrad capable of detecting aircraft and missiles up to 3,000 km away, potentially covering Germany, France and the U.K.

Satellite analysis by Finnish company Iceye also indicates expanding Russian military infrastructure and increased surveillance capabilities across the Baltic region.

Iran’s Foreign Ministry has advised citizens to avoid non-essential travel to France, Belgium and Italy due to growing unrest and public safety concerns.

Iranians already in these countries are urged to avoid protest areas, limit unnecessary movement, check security and transport updates, and keep Iranian embassy contact details handy.

NEW: European leaders may soon hold direct talks with Vladimir Putin and could offer him two paths to peace in Ukraine, according to a Financial Times column by Gideon Rachman.

The first would freeze the war on the current front line in exchange for a guarantee that Ukraine never joins NATO.

The second would see Ukraine give up the rest of the Donbas but then join the alliance.

Rachman writes that European capitals increasingly reject leaving talks with Putin to Washington alone, citing frustration with Trump’s approach.

He adds that Europeans are much less confident Putin would accept either option.

NEW: Germany's AfD is set to unveil a plan to radically overhaul the European Union rather than leave it.

The program, to be presented by co-leader Alice Weidel in the European Parliament calls for turning the EU into a looser “federation of sovereign nations” focused mainly on the single market, border protection and security.

It proposes ending direct elections to the European Parliament, limiting the European Commission to administrative tasks and replacing the EU’s top court with an intergovernmental arbitration body.

If the reforms fail, the party wants a referendum on Germany’s future in the EU and the euro.

The plan marks a softening from the AfD’s earlier calls for a German exit, with the party eyeing a right-wing majority in Europe by 2029.

U.S. Ambassador to Türkiye Tom Barrack:

Israel is way too smart to actually pick a real fight with Türkiye, and Türkiye is way too smart to accede to the verbosity of these threats.

This is politics. Türkiye and Israel had a honeymoon in the early 2000s. The trade balance was fine. They got along fine.

I think we're in a very harsh political situation, and most of all of that talk is talk.

What we are all terrified about is the unintended accident that happens along this road.

We had an Israeli incursion on an air base 35 kilometers away from Türkiye.

It could have been another Russian incident. Türkiye could've very quickly send its jets and all of a sudden, we're in another situation.

We've had 23 regime changes. None of them have worked.

Lessons learned. Does it make sense? No, it doesn't make sense.

Every time we change the person or the regime, it seems to have been a mistake.

Very little antisemitism, even in the region. The Jews existed side by side forever.

Zionism in '48 became another issue.

China on Europe:

China’s foreign policy is featured by partnership and dialogue rather than alliance and confrontation.

The overall China-EU relationship is sound and stable.

The disagreements on trade issues can be resolved through dialogue and should not affect our overall relations.

Nation-states don't really work, and I get in trouble every time I say this.

Sykes-Picot took this region and imposed boundaries over tribes and religions that never were bound by that geography.

Germany's Chancellor Merz to investors:

If we agree on delivery dates, we stick to it. If you invite friends from Germany for dinner at 7, we will arrive at 6:58.

We are reliable, predictable, precise, and unsurprising. We are, in short, what investors like most.

So the good thing about clichés is this: they tend to be true. So if you pick the core of this assumed Germanness, you might actually like what you get.

Yes, we do have our own challenges, but Germany's DNA proves to be rather helpful in the face of a world which is harder and harder to read and to predict.

U.S. Ambassador to Türkiye Tom Barrack on Iran:

If you look at Iran, the Iranian people we all love and adore, and understand that the Shia Twelver philosophy, from the ground up since 1979, is a theocracy.

It's not an evil regime; that has nothing to do with it. That's a religious content and practice that we all respect.

The IRGC has become an adversary, and the IRGC and its adversarial role with Israel has been a problem.

Russia considers it important that Ukraine have a legitimate representative at the negotiating table who is prepared to make decisions aimed at ending the conflict.
