Ukrainian forces hit the Proton-Elektrotex electronics plant in Russia’s Oryol with Storm Shadow/SCALP-EG cruise missiles, damaging its main production building.

The plant produces semiconductors and other electronic components used in Russia’s Iskander-M ballistic missiles, Kh-101 cruise missiles and Pantsir-S1 air defense systems.

Türkiye has completed the tender to reconstruct the historic Ani Bridge on its border with Armenia.

The 10th-century Silk Road bridge spans the Arpaçay River, which forms the border between the two countries, at the UNESCO-listed Ani archaeological site in Kars province.

Originally about 80 meters long with a single 31-meter arch, the bridge once served as a customs checkpoint, but its arch collapsed in 1807, leaving only a pier on each bank.

Türkiye and Armenia signed a protocol on the reconstruction in Yerevan in May.

The project is seen as a concrete confidence-building step in the normalization process launched in 2022, as the two countries still have no diplomatic relations and their land border has been closed since 1993.

Audi will spend $4 billion to build its first U.S. factory in Macon, Georgia, creating 4,500 jobs, as parent company Volkswagen struggles with Trump’s tariffs.

Audi CEO Gernot Döllner announced the plant on stage at a Trump campaign rally, an unusual move for a major European brand just days before the U.S. midterm elections.

“We are planning to bring our biggest and most premium SUVs, and produce them here in Macon, Georgia,” Döllner said, adding:

“This is a long-term investment because we believe in the American market.”

The factory aims to produce 200,000 Q7, Q8 and Q9 SUVs a year, shifting some production from Bratislava, Slovakia.

Volkswagen has said Trump’s 15% tariffs on EU imports cost it up to €5 billion a year, and the investment may add to tensions in Germany, where the carmaker has begun cutting as many as 100,000 jobs and closing factories.

Türkiye’s SİPER Block-2 long-range air defense missile successfully changed targets mid-flight for the first time during a test firing.

After launch, the missile’s target information was updated in flight, and it destroyed the new target using mid-course and terminal guidance.

Developed by Roketsan, Aselsan and TÜBİTAK SAGE with around 1,000 subcontractors, the SİPER Block-2 has a range of about 150 km, can reach altitudes of around 30 km and is designed to intercept fighter jets, helicopters, drones and cruise missiles.

The ability to retarget in flight allows operators to avoid wasting missiles when threat priorities shift or an initial target has already been neutralized by another system.
