Syria’s electricity company says the Deir Ali, Nasiriyah and Tishreen power plants have gone offline after an explosion on a gas pipeline supplying the Tishreen Thermal Power Plant near the town of al-Otaiba.

The blast cut gas supplies needed to operate the plants, while the resulting fire is still burning and emergency teams are responding.

The shutdown is expected to reduce electricity generation and temporarily increase power cuts across the country, the company said.
