German Chancellor Merz made a surprise visit to Kyiv, reaffirming Berlin’s support for Ukraine.

Germany will provide €1 billion in military aid and €350 million for energy repairs, while finalizing a joint drone deal with Ukraine.

Merz said Germany would keep supporting Kyiv, warning Russia’s “war machine” could eventually turn against Europe.

The tensions followed Ireland's 3-0 win days earlier, where Irish players wore black armbands during the Israeli anthem and video emerged of Israeli fans making monkey noises at a Black Irish player.

UEFA declined to investigate that incident.
