Maysaa Shuja al-Deen | Senior Researcher | Sanaโ€™a Center for Strategic Studies:

The Houthis donโ€™t recognize national borders & define themselves as a revolutionary movement, not a state, with ambitions to spread their model beyond Yemen.

Information from Houthi-controlled areas is scarce. No free media. Information is controlled. People are afraid to speak.

The Houthis extract heavy taxes but provide no salaries, no services, no sense of responsibility toward their own society.

Maysaa Shuja al-Deen | Senior Researcher | Sanaโ€™a Center for Strategic Studies:

The Houthis are overconfident & believe no one can defeat them because they survived military confrontations.

But Yemen is also deeply divided, & the Houthis have made enemies of virtually every Yemeni faction.

They have shown no willingness to compromise - only to dominate. And that is not how Yemen works.

Maysaa Shuja al-Deen | Senior Researcher | Sanaโ€™a Center for Strategic Studies:

The Houthis can't control all of Yemen. They are a sectarian group in a heavily armed society - and their ideology is rejected by a large portion of Yemenis.

They have failed to build socio-political alliances & have lost past alliances. Tribal alliances in the north have eroded.

Even if the Houthis expanded militarily it can't sustain. They never speak about sharing power with other Yemenis.

Congressional Democrats are increasingly uniting behind efforts to impeach Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth over his handling of the Iran war, while party leaders remain reluctant to pursue another impeachment of President Trump.

Several Democrats, including Rep. Melanie Stansbury, have called for Hegsethโ€™s removal, accusing him of violating congressional war powers and overseeing unlawful killings.

Republican Rep. Thomas Massie has also introduced an impeachment resolution that the House will be forced to consider after the November midterms.

Top executives at OpenAI, Anthropic and other AI companies are privately preparing for a potential public and political backlash following a catastrophic AI-related incident.

According to Axios, executives fear a major AI-driven cyberattack could disrupt banking, internet access, electricity or water supplies.

Many industry insiders believe such an incident could occur within six to 12 months, prompting calls for strict regulation or even a halt to advanced AI development.

Companies are already preparing for possible congressional action, including proposals to require emergency kill switches, while seeking to influence future U.S. AI legislation.

A fire at the Greek Navyโ€™s helicopter base in Kotroni destroyed warehouses containing critical spare parts for its helicopters.

Parts for the older AB 212 helicopters may be impossible to replace because they are no longer available on the market.

The fire also destroyed valuable spare parts for the Navyโ€™s newer MH-60 Romeo helicopters, which can be replaced but at significant cost.

Greeceโ€™s Defense Ministry and military leadership have remained silent about the damage and the scale of the losses.

Iranโ€™s IRGC Navy said it struck the LPG tanker NV Sunshine as it attempted to transit through an "unauthorized route" south of the Strait of Hormuz, causing a major fire in its engine room and propulsion system.

It warned that companies cooperating with the U.S. would face sanctions and that vessels using "unauthorized routes" would be pursued and punished throughout the region, not just in the Strait of Hormuz.

The Trump administration imposed sweeping sanctions on the International Criminal Court (ICC), potentially cutting off its banking, insurance and software services.

The move comes amid U.S. anger over ICC arrest warrants for Israeli officials, including Netanyahu, and a previous investigation into U.S. troops in Afghanistan.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio called the ICC a โ€œrogue courtโ€ and warned: โ€œEither the ICC will end its threats, or we will end the ICC.โ€ He urged U.S. allies to pressure the court into meeting Washingtonโ€™s demands.

The sanctions were announced hours after former ICC judge Navi Pillay won the Nobel Peace Prize for her work in international criminal justice.

Marco Rubio:

Either the ICC will end its threats, or we will end the ICC.

And we expect our allies, many of whom are part of the ICC, and that rely on American service members for their defense, to rein in this rogue court.

If they do not, the United States will continue its campaign to dismantle the ICC, piece by piece, until Americans are threatened no longer.

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth faces bipartisan backlash over plans to livestream the December 3 execution of Nidal Malik Hasan, sentenced to death for killing 13 people in the 2009 Fort Hood shooting.

It would be the U.S. militaryโ€™s first execution in six decades.

Republican and Democratic lawmakers condemned the plan as a dishonorable public spectacle that could inspire terrorism.

Republican Sen. Thom Tillis said public executions are associated with oppressive regimes like Iran and Afghanistan and โ€œshould not be happening in America.โ€
