Cybersecurity company Proofpoint, owned by U.S. private equity firm Thoma Bravo, has agreed to buy Israeli-founded data security firm Varonis Systems in an all-cash deal worth about $6.3 billion.

Varonis shareholders will get $49.75 per share, a 52% premium to the stock’s price before sale rumors surfaced in June.

The deal is expected to close in the first half of 2027, taking Varonis private, and it would create one of the largest pure-play cybersecurity companies, focused on data and AI security.

Varonis employs about 2,800 people, including roughly 1,000 in Israel, and CEO Yaki Faitelson said its mission is “to secure AI and the data that powers it.”

The deal adds to a wave of major U.S. acquisitions of Israeli tech firms.

Google’s purchase of Israeli-founded cloud security company Wiz closed in March 2026 for $32 billion in cash, making it Israel’s largest tech exit ever, while Palo Alto Networks completed its acquisition of CyberArk in February 2026 in a deal worth about $25 billion.

Israeli firms recorded about $70 billion in exits across roughly 110 deals in the first 11 months of 2025.

The Atlantic reports that Pete Hegseth’s plan to livestream a military execution blindsided even his closest Pentagon advisers and triggered “pretty universal revulsion” within the Trump administration.

According to the report, Trump faced private pressure from Republican lawmakers and advisers who warned that the broadcast would be barbaric, fuel ISIS propaganda and hurt Republicans in the midterms.

Trump reportedly “soured on it pretty quickly” after hearing the criticism, prompting Hegseth to abandon the livestream plan.

Trump on Ukraine:

Where is the cash that we gave to Ukraine? Where is all the equipment?

You know, people were selling that equipment.

Biden was giving them missiles, and they were being sold on the open market after they went to Ukraine.

Trump on Ukraine War:

Had the Russians not taken the right turn onto dirt instead of going up a concrete highway, it would have ended in one day.

So I can imagine Putin's not exactly thrilled.

Trump calls Ukrainian strikes on Russian oil refineries a “disgrace”:

There's plenty of other targets. They don't have to hit [refineries]. There are a lot of targets that you can hit.

Trump on Ukraine:

I think you need an election because there's nobody that's telling me that the people of Ukraine are satisfied having missiles hitting their apartment building.

Trump:

They expended a lot of our ammunition giving it to Ukraine.

We spent very little, relatively, on Iran.

Trump:

Oil is less expensive now than it was under Biden. It's less expensive now than it was under Barack Hussein Obama.

Did you ever see his oil prices? They were way up.

Trump on Somalia:

All they do is shoot each other all day long and rob ships.

They're only good at being a pirate. Other than that, they're not.

It's no government. It's no country. It's not even a thing.

Trump:

Ilhan Omar ought to go back to her own country and help them out.

She couldn't help anybody anyway.

Trump:

The only thing they can impeach me for is making our country really strong.

Trump:

I could have done numbers on Hillary Clinton. I could have done numbers on Bill Clinton. I do like Bill Clinton. I could have done numbers on Barack Hussein Obama.

Still could. I still could. I could do big numbers if I wanted to. I've turned down going after Hillary Clinton.

We have a lot of information about Hillary. We have a lot of information about Barack Hussein Obama. We have a lot of information on Sleepy Joe Biden.

Trump:

We're the greatest nuclear power in the world. We have more in nuclear than Russia. Russia's second, China's third. And China is way behind.

But they'll catch us within five years, which is, you know, the whole thing is a shame because I'd love to denuclearize if possible.

And we're actually talking to Russia about that, and we're talking to China about that, denuclearization.
