Wagner intensifies its presence in the north of the Central African Republic

In a new phase of consolidation of its influence in the Central African Republic, the Russian paramilitary group Wagner has launched a recruitment campaign in the north of the country. The aim is to train young militiamen to consolidate its control and secure its strategic interests in the Vakaga prefecture, bordering Sudan and Chad.

U.S. Treasury Yields Spike

Recent trade tensions and investor unease have pushed U.S. Treasury yields sharply higher:

โ€ข 10-Year Yield: Surged past 4%, peaking at 4.21% โ€” a 34 bps jump from recent lows, despite expectations of economic slowdown and Fed rate cuts.

โ€ข 30-Year Yield: Climbed over 50 bps during the week, reaching 4.72%, the highest since November 2023.

Why it matters:
โ€ข Trumpโ€™s new tariffs have shaken faith in Treasuriesโ€™ haven status, triggering selloffs in longer-dated bonds.

โ€ข Volatility is rippling through global markets, with bond yields rising in Australia, Japan, and Europe.

โ€ข Higher yields can raise mortgage rates, slow down the economy, and rattle markets worldwide.

โ€ข Some investors suspect that reserve giants like China may be rethinking their U.S. debt holdings amid Trumpโ€™s tariff shock. While such moves are rarely visible in real time, both China and Japan have already been quietly trimming their Treasuries.

โ€ข In a rare twist, the dollar fell even as yields rose, boosting traditional havens like the yen and Swiss franc, both up over 1%.

U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth visited Panama to reaffirm cooperation on canal security, offering a softer stance than President Trump, who has called for the U.S. to "take back" the Panama Canal.

While Hegseth warned of Chinese influence through Hong Kong-based CK Hutchison Holdings Ltd., he emphasized partnership with Panama, not unilateral action.

โ€œTogether we will take back the canal from Chinaโ€™s influence,โ€ Hegseth said, while praising Panama for taking the lead.

Judge Orders White House to Restore AP Access

A federal judge has ordered the White House to restore the Associated Pressโ€™s access to presidential events, ruling that barring the outlet over its refusal to use the term โ€œGulf of Americaโ€ was unconstitutional.

Judge Trevor McFadden, a Trump appointee, said the move violated the APโ€™s First Amendment rights and amounted to viewpoint discrimination.

The White House has one week to appeal the decision.

Chinese Foreign Ministry:

China will continue to take resolute and effective measures to safeguard our legitimate rights and interests.

The U.S. continues to abuse tariffs to pressure China. China firmly opposes this and will never accept this kind of bullying.

If the United States really wants to solve the problem through dialogue and negotiation, it should adopt an attitude of equality, respect, and mutual benefit.

Trumpโ€™s Tariff Demands

๐Ÿ“Œ No retaliation allowed โ€” just accept U.S. tariffs.
๐Ÿ“Œ Buy more American โ€” especially defense equipment.
๐Ÿ“Œ Build factories in the U.S. โ€” avoid tariffs by manufacturing on U.S. soil.
๐Ÿ“Œ Invest in U.S. manufacturing โ€” directly support domestic industry.
๐Ÿ“Œ Write checks to the U.S. Treasury โ€” literal payments to offset โ€œglobal public goodsโ€ provided by America.

Algeria Emerges as Unexpected Su-35 Recipient

Satellite imagery confirms that at least one Su-35 Flanker M, originally built for Egypt, has been delivered to Algeriaโ€™s Ain Beida Air Base, defying earlier expectations of a transfer to Iran.

โ€ข A Russian An-124 transported the aircraft in early March 2025.

โ€ข By 10 March, satellite images showed a Su-35 with Algerian markings.

โ€ข At least four more Su-35s are confirmed to bear Algerian roundels at the Russian factory, suggesting further deliveries.

โ€ข Algeria already flies Su-30MKAs and has a confirmed order for the Su-57 Felon (Feb 2025). The Su-35s likely complement this expanding high-end fleet.

Is China Dumping U.S. Treasuries?

โ€ข China holds $761 billion in U.S. debt, second only to Japan.

โ€ข Rumors swirl that China may be selling Treasuries to retaliate against U.S. tariffs.

โ€ข Yields are surging โ€” 10-year above 4.5%, 30-year at 5% โ€” making U.S. borrowing costlier.

โ€ข Strategic risk: A mass sell-off could hurt global markets, including Chinaโ€™s own holdings.
