🗞M2 MacBook Air takes performance hit with slower SSD on base model
As 9to5Mac previously reported, the M2 MacBook Pro offers a slower SSD on the base model. While the M1 MacBook Pro and M1 MacBook Air have two NAND chips of 128GB each in its 256GB version, the M2 MacBook Pro – and now M2 MacBook Air – has a single 256GB NAND chip. In the first case, the M1 Macs can achieve faster speeds in parallel, while the latter fails to reach the same SSD speeds since it has only a single SSD. As 9to5Mac‘s Filipe Espósito noted, “having a slower SSD increases the time it takes to load apps and transfer files. Of course, the SSD in the entry-level M2 MacBook Pro is still quite fast, but cutting the speed by 50% compared to the previous model seems unfair to consumers.”Here are the results of one of the benchmark tests done by the YouTube channel Max Tech:
M1 MacBook Pro: 2900 MB/s (read speed) and 2215 MB/s (write speed)
M2 MacBook Pro: 1446 MB/s (read speed) and 1463 MB/s (write speed)

🗞Microsoft is launching a Facebook rip-off inside Teams
Viva Engage builds on some of the strengths of Yammer, promoting digital communities, conversations, and self-expression in the workplace. While Yammer often feels like an extension of SharePoint and Office, Viva Engage looks like a Facebook replica. It includes a storylines section, which is effectively your Facebook news feed, featuring conversational posts, videos, images, and more. It looks and feels just like Facebook, and it’s clearly designed to feel similar so employees will use it to share news or even personal interests.Microsoft has been trying to build something similar for a decade, with its initial Yammer investment into enterprise-focused social networking paving the way for communities within organizations that rely on Office. Yammer integration into SharePoint, Office 365, Dynamics, and Skype felt more forced than something businesses were regularly demanding.

💡Expand your text to full page width in Microsoft Word We don't see this feature used quite enough and by default Word leaves a lot of unused space toward the margins. Head to View > Zoom > and choose Text Width > OK. Now whatever you're writing should fill out most of the Word page.

🗞WhatsApp chats can finally be moved between Android and iPhone
as well as having the freedom to switch from iOS to any Android phone (running Android 5 or later) you can – from 20 July 2022 – transfer your WhatsApp backup in the other direction, from Android to iPhone. In mid-June, Mark Zuckerberg announced that Android-to-iPhone transfers were being “added” – meaning the rollout had started – and confirmed that end-to-end encryption is maintained for Android-to-iPhone transfers. This puts an end to awkward workarounds using third-party apps, and means you never have to pay to keep your chat history when you decide to jump ship to a different mobile operating system. If you’ve been waiting for this feature to become available, note that the process uses Apple’s Move to iOS app. This will also migrate your contacts, iMessage history, camera photos and videos, web bookmarks, email accounts and calendars.

🗞WhatsApp starts testing the option to hide your online status on Android
With WhatsApp beta for Android version 2.22.16.12, the folks at WABetaInfo could access a new privacy setting. Based on the report, opening the app and navigating to Settings > Account > Privacy > Last seen and online reveals an option to choose who can see when you're online. The option is directly tied in with the Last seen setting as you can only choose whether to have everyone know your availability or only those who can see your Last seen. The company's decision to keep online availability dependent on the Last seen status might seem amiss, but it does make sense. After all, if you don't want a particular person or group of people to see your Last seen status, you likely don't want them to see your online status either. So it saves you the hassle of configuring two different settings. It seems like a straightforward addition at best.

🗞WhatsApp could soon display past participants of group chats after they leave
WaBetaInfo discovered the feature in the WhatsApp beta for iOS 22.16.0.70 update. This means that even if WhatsApp brings out a wider rollout for the feature allowing users to leave groups silently without alerting other users, all participants will still be able to see who left the group in the last 60 days from when they are checking. 60 days after a user leaves a group, their name will be removed from the list of past participants.Earlier this month, WhatsApp was testing a feature where users can delete the messages they sent as long as 2 days and 12 hours after they send them. Currently, users can only delete messages “for everyone” about an hour after the message is sent. Before that, the instant messaging service had begun testing “Voice Status” where users could record a quick audio note and share it on their Status tab, just like how users could send voice notes in WhatsApp chats.
