DisplayPort is different — it was made by VESA and is much more open/royalty-free.

And USB-C is even more interesting. USB-C itself doesn’t work like HDMI with a per-product royalty, and that tiny USB-C port can literally carry DisplayPort, HDMI, USB, power, and a bunch of other stuff depending on the device.

So basically one tiny port is doing everyone's job 😭
