Nvidia Agrees to Buy Hugging Face for $12.9 Billion
Nvidia has agreed to acquire Hugging Face, the GitHub-like hub for open-source AI models, datasets and benchmarks, in a deal reportedly worth about $12.9 billion, according to The Information.
For crypto and AI builders, the move puts the field's main open-model repository under its most powerful hardware vendor, raising fresh questions about neutrality and access as more onchain and agent projects lean on Hugging Face models.
Nvidia has agreed to acquire Hugging Face, the GitHub-like hub for open-source AI models, datasets and benchmarks, in a deal reportedly worth about $12.9 billion, according to The Information.
The acquisition hands Nvidia a dominant position in open-source AI just as freely available models close the gap with closed systems from OpenAI and Anthropic. Anyone downloading a model from Hugging Face still has to run it on their own hardware, which overwhelmingly means Nvidia GPUs, so the deal defends Nvidia's core chip business against big customers building their own silicon.
The price is nearly triple the $4.5 billion valuation Hugging Face reached in its 2023 round, which Nvidia, Alphabet and Salesforce backed. Hugging Face had rebuffed a $500 million Nvidia investment last year that would have valued it near $7 billion.
For crypto and AI builders, the move puts the field's main open-model repository under its most powerful hardware vendor, raising fresh questions about neutrality and access as more onchain and agent projects lean on Hugging Face models.

Ethena Ends VC Unlocks and Puts ENA Buybacks to a Vote
The Ethena Foundation announced four changes to the ENA ecosystem: it bought out early seed investors, eliminated future monthly VC unlocks, assigned all protocol value to the Foundation, and opened a governance vote on revenue buybacks.
Together the moves tie ENA's value directly to protocol revenue and strip out the investor supply overhang that has weighed on the token, shifting control and cash flows toward holders. The buyback vote is live now on Snapshot.
The Ethena Foundation announced four changes to the ENA ecosystem: it bought out early seed investors, eliminated future monthly VC unlocks, assigned all protocol value to the Foundation, and opened a governance vote on revenue buybacks.
The buyout covered all locked tokens held by major seed investors who had sold any ENA over the past 9 months, while scrapping the monthly VC unlocks releases the remaining unvested investor overhang. All team tokens stay locked on their original vesting schedules.
A Master Framework Agreement between the Foundation and Ethena Labs assigns the protocol's IP and accrued value to the Foundation, governed by token holders, with no residual cash flow owed to Labs equity investors. Separately, a proposal already cleared by the Risk Committee would flip a fee switch so net revenue across every Ethena business line programmatically buys back ENA.

BitGo Buys NYDIG's Institutional Trading Business
BitGo has agreed to acquire NYDIG's institutional trading business and related assets, adding derivatives, structured products, financing and other capital-markets services to its custody, settlement and wallet infrastructure.
The move continues a wave of consolidation in institutional crypto infrastructure, as custody, trading and prime-services providers bundle capabilities to win the larger allocators returning to the market.
BitGo has agreed to acquire NYDIG's institutional trading business and related assets, adding derivatives, structured products, financing and other capital-markets services to its custody, settlement and wallet infrastructure.
Roughly 250 institutional client relationships and about 30 NYDIG employees are expected to move to BitGo. Terms were not disclosed. The purchase deepens BitGo's push beyond custody into trading and capital markets, just as activity picks up after a prolonged crypto trading slowdown, making the deal one of the first clear signs of a rebound.
BitGo, founded in 2013 and based in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, is one of the earliest institutional crypto custodians and went public earlier this year. For NYDIG, a Stone Ridge affiliate long known for its Bitcoin-native approach, the sale marks a strategic narrowing of focus.

DefiLlama and Forgd Launch Universal Token Ratings
DefiLlama and Forgd have launched Universal Token Ratings, a standardized system that scores 128 tokens from 0 to 100 and assigns letter grades from AAA down to CCC.
For a market long criticized for opaque tokenomics and cherry-picked metrics, a continuously updated, disclosure-based rating gives allocators and researchers a common yardstick to compare tokens on more than price.
DefiLlama and Forgd have launched Universal Token Ratings, a standardized system that scores 128 tokens from 0 to 100 and assigns letter grades from AAA down to CCC.
The grades combine each project's public disclosures with live on-chain and market data, and update continuously, so a token's rating shifts as its fundamentals change rather than sitting in a static report. Forgd, a Web3 investment bank, and DefiLlama pitch it as the first standard in digital assets that continuously verifies whether a token's real market performance matches what the project has disclosed.
Projects that are not yet covered can formally apply to disclose their information and get rated, and the full methodology behind the requirements is published openly on the platform.

Bain Capital Leads $74M Round in RQD* Clearing
Bain Capital led a $74M growth investment in RQD* Clearing, a cloud-native securities clearing and custody provider, with ABN AMRO Clearing Bank and Nyca Partners also joining.
For digital-asset markets, the raise signals that traditional post-trade infrastructure providers are positioning early for tokenized securities, where settlement and custody move on-chain and the line between TradFi clearing and crypto custody starts to blur.
Bain Capital led a $74M growth investment in RQD* Clearing, a cloud-native securities clearing and custody provider, with ABN AMRO Clearing Bank and Nyca Partners also joining.
The minority growth round funds RQD's expansion across North America, Asia and the Middle East and, notably for crypto, accelerates its build-out of custody infrastructure for digital assets and tokenization. CoinDesk framed the deal as Wall Street laying the plumbing for tokenized markets, where clearing and custody rails are a prerequisite for moving real-world assets on-chain at scale.
RQD says it has cleared roughly 515 million equity transactions worth nearly $2 trillion so far this year, about 2.4% of US National Market System equity trading. Bain joins an investor group that already includes ABN AMRO Clearing, Nyca Partners, Gentree Fund and Belvedere Strategic Capital.

SBI Buys 20% of Indonesia's Ajaib for $270M
Japan's SBI Holdings is taking a 20% stake in Indonesian online brokerage Ajaib for $270M, turning the Jakarta-based firm into an equity-method affiliate.
The deal fits a wider pattern of Japanese and regional financial groups buying into Southeast Asian fintech to seed stablecoin and tokenization rails, betting that local brokerages become the on-ramps for yen and dollar-pegged digital money.
Japan's SBI Holdings is taking a 20% stake in Indonesian online brokerage Ajaib for $270M, turning the Jakarta-based firm into an equity-method affiliate.
The move is part of SBI's broader push to expand its yen-denominated stablecoin, JPYSC, which it launched in June, across Southeast Asia. Plugging Ajaib's retail brokerage and user base into SBI's crypto and payments stack gives the Japanese group a distribution channel for stablecoin and digital-asset services in one of the region's largest markets.
For Ajaib, founded by Stanford classmates Anderson Sumarli and Yada Piyajomkwan, the $270M Series C is Indonesia's largest tech funding round since 2022 and lifts its valuation above the prior round.

a16z Raises $1.1B Machine Age Hardware Fund
Andreessen Horowitz has raised a $1.1B fund called Machine Age to invest in the hardware backbone of AI, from chips, memory, networking and storage to robotics.
The raise underscores how the AI arms race has shifted from software toward silicon and physical infrastructure, with top venture firms racing to fund the picks-and-shovels layer rather than just the applications on top.
Andreessen Horowitz has raised a $1.1B fund called Machine Age to invest in the hardware backbone of AI, from chips, memory, networking and storage to robotics.
The fund is a bet that the hard constraint on AI is no longer just models and data but the physical supply chain underneath them, the compute, memory and networking that have become the industry's tightest bottleneck. It slots alongside a16z's other infrastructure and Oxygen compute initiatives aimed at securing hardware access for its portfolio companies.
For crypto, the thesis rhymes with DePIN and on-chain AI: whoever controls compute, chips and networking capacity controls the pace of the AI buildout, and increasingly that hardware layer is where the biggest capital is now flowing.

Bybit Launches 24/7 Options on Stock Perpetuals
Bybit has launched 24/7 options on its stock perpetuals, starting with SpaceX and Nvidia, giving traders round-the-clock, USDT-settled exposure to equities.
For the industry, it is another step in the convergence of crypto and traditional finance: the same venues that list perps on BTC and ETH now offer leveraged, always-on options on Big Tech and pre-IPO names, settled in stablecoins rather than dollars.

The options sit on top of Bybit's TradFi Perpetuals, the exchange's product line for trading stocks, indices and commodities as 24/7 USDT-settled contracts. Adding options lets traders express directional and volatility views on names like SpaceX and Nvidia at any hour, including weekends when traditional markets are closed.
It is part of a broader race among crypto exchanges, Coinbase among them, to wrap tokenized or synthetic equity exposure in familiar derivatives and pull TradFi order flow onto crypto rails.

Solana Passes Vote to Double SOL Disinflation
Solana's stake-weighted governance vote has passed SIMD-0550, clearing the two-thirds supermajority needed to double the network's annual disinflation rate from 15% to 30%.
For SOL holders, the vote is a clear shift toward scarcity: less new supply hitting the market each year and an earlier arrival at Solana's minimum inflation floor, at the cost of thinner staking emissions down the line.
Solana's stake-weighted governance vote has passed SIMD-0550, clearing the two-thirds supermajority needed to double the network's annual disinflation rate from 15% to 30%.
The change accelerates how fast new SOL issuance winds down. It removes an estimated 18.9 million SOL, worth roughly $1.5B at recent prices, from future emissions and brings Solana's 1.5% terminal inflation forward by about three years, to around H1 2029 instead of 2032. Total supply ends up roughly 2.6% lower than under the old schedule.
Authored by Helius engineers and elevated to a formal Solana Governance Proposal, it is one of the network's biggest tokenomics changes to date. The trade-off: faster disinflation also trims future staking rewards, so validators and stakers accept lower nominal yield over time in exchange for a scarcer SOL.

Shyft Finance has partnered with GAP3 Partners as Co-Curator of its first two vaults, shCORE and shYIELD, as the Ethereum yield products near pre-deposits.
GAP3, the Gulf's first VARA-licensed Virtual Asset Investment Advisor, provides research, analysis and strategy recommendations on the vaults. shYIELD targets higher returns by combining Radiant Prime, Maple syrupUSDC and Gauntlet USD Alpha, while shCORE runs a more balanced mix of Radiant Prime, Ondo USDY and Sky sUSDS. Both contracts are already live on Ethereum mainnet.
Rather than lean on a single protocol, each vault blends multiple onchain and market-neutral strategies under one professionally curated wrapper, with source-level reporting via Accountable, RedStone and Chainlink Proof of Reserve for the off-exchange sleeves.

Cronos Halts Chain After $75M Tectonic Exploit
Cronos halted its entire network after identifying an exploit in Tectonic, its largest lending protocol, with on-chain analysts putting the total drain at roughly $75M.
A full base-layer halt of this size is rare, and it hands Cronos a narrow window to freeze and potentially recover funds before any restart. No timeline for resuming the chain has been given.
Cronos halted its entire network after identifying an exploit in Tectonic, its largest lending protocol, with on-chain analysts putting the total drain at roughly $75M.
The Cronos team stopped block production to prevent the attacker from moving the stolen funds, and the exploiter's addresses have been blacklisted, leaving the assets stranded on Cronos with no way to bridge them out while validators prepare a network fix. Researcher William Li (hklst4r) traced the loss across several attacker-controlled wallets, including one holding about $8M, to reach the ~$75M estimate. Tectonic is a Cronos-native money market, and lending protocols that rely on external price feeds and shared collateral pools remain among DeFi's most frequently drained primitives.

Fogo Halts Mainnet After $3M Foundation Hack
Fogo, a high-speed SVM Layer 1 built for onchain trading, halted its mainnet after an attacker received 400 million FOGO tokens worth roughly $3M. That is 4% of the 10 billion genesis supply and more than 10% of the circulating float.
FOGO fell roughly 18% to about $0.0075 on the news, and Bitget and KuCoin suspended deposits and withdrawals while the chain stays down. No restart timeline has been published.

The Fogo Foundation said an unknown actor compromised the organization and sent the tokens to a bad actor, insisting at first that there was no impact to the blockchain, which "continues to operate as normal." The network was halted within the hour anyway, about 15 hours after the initial disclosure, so validators could ship an upgrade that restricts the addresses tied to the unauthorized transfers. The Foundation has not named the attack vector and has not described the incident as a flaw in Fogo's consensus or execution software, which points at an operational compromise rather than a protocol bug.

MORE Markets Drained for $9.3M in Flow EVM Exploit
MORE Markets, a lending protocol on Flow EVM, was exploited for roughly $9.3M after an attacker looped an Ankr bonded liquid staking token through E-mode to drain its WFLOW reserve.
Lending markets that lean on shared collateral pools and aggressive borrow modes remain among DeFi's most frequently drained primitives. No recovery plan or protocol response has been confirmed yet.
MORE Markets, a lending protocol on Flow EVM, was exploited for roughly $9.3M after an attacker looped an Ankr bonded liquid staking token through E-mode to drain its WFLOW reserve.
The attacker emptied about 15.5M WFLOW, worth ~$9.3M, from the mFlowWFLOW lending pool, then routed the funds out in a cluster of post-exploit transfers. Security firm Blockaid detected the incident on-chain and traced the transactions that swept the reserve. E-mode paired with bonded LST collateral let the attacker borrow far more against the position than a standard market would permit, the kind of design edge that has become a recurring soft spot for on-chain lending. MORE Markets runs an omnichain vault model across EVM chains, with Flow among its live deployments.

Chainalysis Sues US Over $95M ICE Deal to TRM Labs
Chainalysis is suing the US government after ICE handed a sole-source, roughly $95M blockchain-forensics contract to rival TRM Labs without open competition.
The one-year award, valued near $94.6M, covers forensic tools and support for Homeland Security Task Force investigations and runs from July 2026 through June 2027, making it one of the larger government blockchain-analytics deals to land in a courtroom fight between the sector's two biggest firms.
Chainalysis is suing the US government after ICE handed a sole-source, roughly $95M blockchain-forensics contract to rival TRM Labs without open competition.
Chainalysis Government Solutions filed the bid protest on July 27 in the US Court of Federal Claims, arguing ICE's decision to skip competition was "arbitrary, capricious, and unreasonable." It says it submitted a capability statement showing it could provide the same forensic software and support that ICE sought to buy solely from TRM. The complaint itself remains under seal because it contains Chainalysis' proprietary information and trade secrets. The court has scheduled responses from the government and TRM this week, with oral argument set for September 2.

Centralized Exchanges by Monthly Spot Volume growth
CEX spot volume grew 11% in August, yet it's still 82% below the 2021 peak. Every major exchange printed green, but the whole move is a bounce inside a multi-year drought, not a return to old highs.
The loudest gains sit on the smallest books: Gemini nearly doubled (+90%) on just $1.3B, Deribit +63%, Bitstamp and Bitfinex both near +51%. Meanwhile the real liquidity never moved: Binance did $224B, OKX $44.3B, Bybit $44.5B.

Polygon Silently Patched Severe Bugs That Could Stall Every Validator
Polygon Labs disclosed it patched a batch of security vulnerabilities through two hard forks, Austin on its Bor client and Kyoto on Heimdall, both rolled out privately and validated on the Amoy testnet before mainnet activation.
The disclosure lands mid-overhaul for Polygon, which recently completed its MATIC to POL migration. POL was trading near $0.10, down about 6.8% on the week, leaving a market cap around $1.07B.
Polygon Labs disclosed it patched a batch of security vulnerabilities through two hard forks, Austin on its Bor client and Kyoto on Heimdall, both rolled out privately and validated on the Amoy testnet before mainnet activation.
The Austin fork closed two denial-of-service paths in block processing, including one where a malicious block producer could crash peer nodes by stuffing a block with an oversized data field. The Kyoto fork addressed a broader set of consensus-hardening issues, the most severe being a flaw that would have let an attacker force costly, coordinated work across the entire validator set from a single crafted transaction, cheap to build but expensive for the network to process. Polygon stressed that none of the flaws were seen exploited on mainnet and that all were resolved proactively. Both upgrades are now mandatory for node operators and already active, with no state migration or resync required.
