The Government of India has appointed Lieutenant General NS Raja Subramani, PVSM, AVSM, SM, VSM (Retd.), as the new Chief of Defence Staff (CDS). He will also serve as Secretary to the Government of India in the Department of Military Affairs, effective from the date he assumes charge and until further orders.
The current Chief of Defence Staff, General Anil Chauhan, is set to complete his tenure on 30 May 2026.

Earlier, he held the position of Vice Chief of the Army Staff from 1 July 2024 to 31 July 2025. Before that, he served as the General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Central Command from March 2023 to June 2024.
