22nd October 1947

> On this day, Pakistani-backed tribal raiders launched Operation Gulmarg, entering Jammu & Kashmir through Muzaffarabad and Domel.

> The invasion began the First Indo-Pak War (1947–48) and created the immediate crisis that led Maharaja Hari Singh to sign the Instrument of Accession with India four days later.

> Indian Army troops were then airlifted to Srinagar, beginning India’s military response in Kashmir.

> This event is directly connected to Infantry Day (27 October), which commemorates the landing of the 1st Battalion, Sikh Regiment at Srinagar after the invasion.
