E100 fuel gets govt nod, paving way for cars running on 100% ethanol, govt amends motor vehicle rules

The ministry of road transport and highways (MoRTH) has notified amendments to the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, adding E100 as an approved fuel option alongside E85 for flex-fuel vehicles.

A senior road transport ministry official was quoted as saying by news agency PTI that fuel beyond E20 (20 per cent ethanol-blended petrol) and up to E100 is intended only for vehicles designed and certified to use it and will not be applicable for other vehicles.

The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) has also altered certain vehicle classification thresholds, fuel specifications, and technical references used in emission-related tables and testing provisions. The government also raised the vehicle weight limit to 3,500 kg from the previous threshold of 3,000 kg for light petrol and diesel vehicles affected by these changes.

SIR row: EC rejects opposition's charges, files 15-point counter-affidavit in SC

Election Commission on Monday filed a counter-affidavit in the Supreme Court defending its functioning and the conduct of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. The poll body rejected allegations of irregularities and questioned the basis of a petition challenging its decision-making process.

The poll body said the affidavit had been unanimously approved by all three members of the Commission — the CEC and the two Election Commissioners. It maintained that all three Special Intensive Revision (SIR) orders issued in June 2025, October 2025 and May 2026 were unanimous decisions.
