New York has passed a bill replacing 'mother' and 'father' with gender-neutral terms. The bill now heads to Hochul's desk for signature.
'Mother' becomes 'gestating parent' and 'father' becomes 'non-gestating parent' under the proposal.

Sweden’s parliament unanimously approved a law banning marriages between first cousins and certain other close relatives. It takes effect July 1.
This was done to combat honor-related oppression. It also stops Swedish authorities from recognizing such marriages conducted abroad. Existing marriages done prior to the law remain valid.
The law has an unconditional ban on first-cousin marriages and uncle/aunt-niece/nephew unions.
Previous exemptions that allowed half-siblings to marry with special permission have been removed. Marriages between individuals closely related through direct descent, as well as adoptive siblings, are now barred.
Cousin marriages conducted in other countries will no longer be recognized under Swedish law, closing previous immigration loopholes.
The ban is designed to protect vulnerable individuals—particularly young women—from forced, pressured, or arranged marriages tied to family expectations.
