Some good news from the Charlotte Observer newspaper.
A federal judge sentenced former Charlotte councilwoman Tiawana Brown to 10 months in prison for a felony COVID fraud conspiracy. Her two daughters Rouse and Tijema were also involved. All pleaded guilty in May 2025 and are being sentenced on a combination of wire fraud and wire fraud conspiracy charges.
The trio submitted false documents and employee records to get government pandemic relief money in 2020 and 2021.
What did they use the money for? They bought a throne and horse-drawn carriage for her 50th birthday party, and the family together used it on Louis Vuitton merchandise.
Pretty light prison sentence, I'd say!! Geez!

🇮🇹 Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni announced plans to cap the number of foreign students in each classroom, saying Italian children must never “feel cornered” because they have become a minority in their own class.
Meloni also wants parents of foreign students struggling to integrate to be required to learn Italian.

A federal judge blocked the state government of Illinois from enforcing a new assisted suicide law against Roman Catholic plaintiffs as a lawsuit over the policy proceeds.
The lawsuit filed on behalf of Archbishop Blase Cupich of Chicago and two orders of nuns asked a federal court to protect the plaintiffs from the assisted suicide law, per a release from legal advocacy group Becket.
The order from U.S. District Judge Franklin Valderrama was issued one day before the law entered into effect on Sept. 12.
“This order means they can continue caring for patients according to their faith without being forced to assist with suicides or punished for speaking a life-affirming message against suicide,” Becket said in the release.
