Interview mit David Missal📡📡📡
https://youtu.be/hQOFIzFoG6o
Last week we had an online interview with David Missal, a China expert based in Germany who previously got his student visa terminated because of his film project about human rights lawyers in China. Apart from his experience in China, he also talked about the new national security law to be imposed in Hong Kong and his concerns regarding Germany-China bilateral relationship.
The open letter he wrote to German foreign affairs minister Heiko Maas in response to the national security law in Hong Kong:

Together we see hope🙌🏼
1 year has passed since the first massive 1-million march on 9/6/2019 in Hong Kong.
Hongkongers, once being described even by the locals as apolitical, utilitarian and selfish, have demonstrated high solidarity, creativity and altruism after a series of protests against an authoritarian government. We'd never expected that a single widely-disputed law could spark significant changes of our city - “we won’t go back to normal, because normal was the problem.”
The recent national security law that contradicted with the "One Country, Two Systems" has even pushed the development further towards an international level. Since the outbreak of Coronavirus, more and more countries have realised that there is a rising threat from China’s one party system due to its authoritarian nature. News of the virus were blocked, WHO is infiltrated and controlled and now China undisguisedly violates the Sino-British Joint Declaration, ignoring the rules of international diplomacy.
The sacrifices of Hongkongers have revealed the true colours behind this second-largest economy. It's nothing more but an evil and corrosive regime. CCP 🇨🇳 is testing our limits on the values what you and I have long treasured. Our protest is now not only confined to our city, but this has evolved to a global manner. This is something that all of us should concern about — to prevent our freedom and liberty from further eroded by CCP 🇨🇳
Here's a 3-mins short video summing up what we have gone through this year and our beliefs.

David vs Goliath: Defending Hong Kong
One year has passed since the Hong Kong protests first erupted.
In the past year, you have been there for Hongkongers, and now we need you more than ever.
While the world has taken notice, freedom and democracy seem more unreachable to Hongkongers than…

Beijing Passes National Security Law for Hong Kong, Details of the Legislation Remain Unknown
Hong Kong Chief Executive Carrie Lam, when asked about the law said, "don't ask me question", in the press conference before the executive council meeting.
The United States has begun eliminating Hong Kong's special status under US law, halting defence exports and restricting the territory's access to high technology products.
Pro-democracy activists Joshua Wong and Nathan Law withdraw from Demosisto and will participate in social movement on an individual basis. Wong believed himself to be the main target, but Wong said he has no plan to leave Hong Kong.
Anges Chow also quit Demosisto and stated that it would be impossible for her to lobby the international community.

Two weeks ago we interviewed Ray Wong, one of the founders of the localist group Hong Kong Indigenous who was granted refugee protection in Germany in 2018. He has become one of the first two political refugees from Hong Kong since then. He shared with us about his life in Germany, his opinions on the recent development of the current pro-democracy movements in Hong Kong and German politics that could probably answer questions from HKers who are considering moving to foreign countries after the implementation of New National Security Law.
