Should you use books to prepare for IELTS?

Books can be very useful for learning vocabulary and developing your English skills.

However, I find that most books are heavy on English skills and light on IELTS skills. This means that they take a lot of time to complete and not necessarily help you perform at your best at an exam that's coming soon.

So I'd say:
- long-term preparation = books
- boosting your IELTS skills before your exam = courses

Should you practise IELTS Speaking with someone from your country or from another country?

I think any practice is useful, but:
- if you speak the same language, there will always be a temptation to switch to your first language when you find something hard to explain. This won't be a problem if the only language you can communicate in is English
- people speaking a certain language tend to have a similar accent and even make similar mistakes. So someone from another country is likely to give you better feedback.

Most importantly, imperfect practice is better than no perfect practice. Just make sure it happens!

To improve your Reading, you should first figure out what's holding you back and then work on your weaknesses. Good luck!

Such an important question! I know it may not be clear what exactly you need to cover in each essay.

However, if you cover only one side in this one (e.g. the advantages), you won't "fully answer the question" and your Task Responce score well be limited at Band 5. Ouch 💣
