Niantic has released the rules for the #CTRL Anomalies, which will take place on July 15, August 19, and September 16!
Each Primary location is worth a total of 600 points, while each Satellite location is worth 200 points. These two totals will be split evenly between Battle Beacons and Flash Shards Challenges.
Agents from around the world will be able to support their faction on August 19 and September 16 through the Agent Ops feature! This will distribute 200 more points in Phase 2 and 3.
Anomaly Zone Battle Beacons
๐ธ 7 Battle Beacon waves in 3 hours, one every 25 minutes.
๐ธ Each Battle Beacon is worth 2+3+4 = 9 points, based on checkpoints won.
๐ธ Battle category does not affect the score.
๐ธVolatile Battle Beacons are worth 3x the base points.
The maximum score for each faction from any of the Battle Beacon waves during the Anomaly Period is their raw score. The 100 or 300 points are divided in proportion to the raw score.
Flash Shards Challenges
๐ธ20 Shards in groups of 2 and 4 target portals OR 50 Shards in groups of 5 and 10 target portals, depending on "XM intensity"
๐ธShards jump via L4+ links every 10 minutes
๐ธA new batch of shards is generated every 15 minutes
๐ธEach shard is worth 2 points at Satellite sites and 6 points at Primary sites
The first five shards secured on a faction's target portal are counted, regardless of which faction controls the target portal at that time. Any additional shards after the fifth on the same target portal scores 0 points.
CTRL Connected Ops
On the Saturday of the second and third phase, each agent will be assigned 10 ops (tasks/quests) to complete between 00:00 and 23:59 local time, which are:
M1 - Capture 1k MU
F1 - Create 1 control field
M2 - Capture 50k MU
F2 - Create 50 control fields
M3 - Capture 150k MU
F3 - Create 150 control fields
M4 - Capture 500k MU
F4 - Create 500 control fields
M5 - Capture 1.5M MU
F5 - Create 1,500 control fields
Each Op completed counts as one raw point for your faction. The 200 score points are distributed in proportion to the faction's raw points achieved.
โ Completing one or more Ops does not count towards the Anomaly Medal! You still have to fulfill the requirements, which are as follows.
๐ Ctrl Medal
Interact with at least 5 Battle Beacons in the Anomaly Zone to earn the medal. Valid actions are:
- Deploy or upgrade resonators (not your own).
- Attack or destroy resonators
- Destroy portal mods
- Destroy links
- Recharge resonators (even remotely).
โ Completing one or more ops does not count towards the anomaly medal!
Links under fields
On any anomaly weekend, from Friday at 1700 UTC to Monday at 1700 UTC, links less than 8 km long can be created under field.

Ctrl Anomaly Series - Details โ Ingress
You'll soon be required to have passed the Wayfarer test before you can submit new Portal nominations!
If you have reached Level 10 and have not done so yet, head over to wayfarer.nianticlabs.com to go through the onboarding and to complete the test.
If you have already passed the Wayfarer test in the past, no action is needed. Already submitted Portal nominations are also not affected.
With this change, Ingress will use the same mechanic as Pokemon Go where new submissions are also locked behind completing the Wayfarer test. That being said, unlike PoGo, it seems like only Portal nominations are affected by this change. Requests for Portal edits are not affected at this time.

Agent @M1chaeI has released an alpha version of a project that'll improve your bannering experience that can be found at https://www.openbanners.org!
Meet OpenBanners, an open-source front-end that uses Bannergress's API. On the home page, you can select a banner that's close to you, and it will guide you through the banner in a similar way to the Bannergress Overlay. In addition, you will be able to see the path of the current and the next mission on the map, as well as your location and the direction you are facing. This way you can e.g. predict if it's smart to cross that street or to remain on the same side. The website has several use cases:
For iOS, it's way easier to get to the next mission than using a telegram bot or scrolling the mission list.
For regular Android phones, tablets and foldables, you can open your browser and Ingress in split-screen and see where the banner is taking you.
Please try it out for your next banner, and let @M1chaeI know what you think of it. The website is still in active development.
The info/releases channel can be found here: https://t.me/+WPn_iHMThoQ2NGQ0
Share your feedback in the OpenBanners feedback group here: https://t.me/+mVOe8rPqLvI4NWE0

A new update for the Campfire app added a button for an Ingress (and Peridot) map layer!
At the moment, the layer is still empty and doesn't show any information. Campfire uses the map layers for Pokemon GO and NBA All-World to show some live data from the POIs of the games, such as ongoing Raids at gyms (PoGo) or collectibles claim (NBA). We're excited to see what Niantic will add to the Ingress map layer.
At the moment, the Campfire app is still invite-only via other players that have access to it. It is unknown when Campfire will go public for all or when Agents will recieve access.

A new update for Ingress was released, Version 2.119.1!
You can now redeploy your Tesseract while doing an Overclock hack in case the cube got misplaced or the location you initially choose becomes unsuitable.
In addition, while you're nominating a new Wayspot, a new link was added to the Wayfarer Training Module.
Niantic also reintroduced the new 2sDay event in the Release Notes and makes another note that the 2x AP bonus does not count for Portal Scans.
The release notes do not mention Thia's remark which states that this last part will be fixed in the future.

The past few hours have been hours of apprehension for Ingress Players. Niantic, in the person of CEO John Hanke shared with the public an email which was sent to all Niantic employees regarding some important organisational changes inside the company.
"I have made the decision to narrow our focus for mobile game investments, concentrating on first party games that most strongly embody our core values of location and local social communities. The mobile gaming market is very mature and only the best and most differentiated titles have a chance to succeed. We also want to increase our focus on building for the emerging class of MR devices and future AR glasses."
In light of this, Hanke stated that Niantic will be laying off about 230 employees, discontinuing their NBA: All Stars game and interrupting production of their upcoming Marvel: World of Heroes title. Their studios in LA, USA will also be closed, leaving their main base in San Francisco, where the company originated from.
Niantic has stated that Pokรฉmon Go will be the top priority going forward, as far as mobile games are concerned. The aim of the company is to keep the game "healthy and growing as a forever game. While we made some adjustments to the Pokรฉmon GO team, our investment in the product and team continues to grow."
Ingress players were left wondering if these layoffs would impact their beloved game and, for several hours, Agents relayed this question to Niantic's social outlets.
Finally, the Ingress Team posted a new article on the blog addressing the matter, thanking and praising the work of their colleagues who will be leaving and reassuring Agents that Ingress is continuing onward!
"Ingress continues to operate full steam ahead, and we remain optimistic for the future of the game and community we all love so passionately. The Ingress team will continue our focus on sustainability, as well as making the game easier to understand for new recruits so that we can grow our global Agent community."
While the Ingress team itself doesn't seem to be affected, we have received news that Ethan Lepouttre, the Marketing Manager for Niantic and best known for being the driver of the NL-1331 van, will also leave Niantic. We are thankful for him and all of the people who contributed to making Niantic and Ingress what they are now. We would like to thank all those impacted by this organisational shift and wish them all the best for their future endeavors.

The Agent Ops Feature that was supposed to be used for events starting in August will be postponed.
Due to apparent ongoing development issues with the task system the Ingress team has announced that Agents Ops will not be used for events in Q3, which were Second Sundays and the Ctrl Connected Ops in August and September.
While the Second Sundays will continue as normal for now by completing 6 missions, Niantic is working on a replacement mechanic for the Ctrl Anomaly Series and the Ctrl Connected Ops.
