2027 BEGINS EARLY: THE MWANGOLO-BWIRE RIVALRY EXPOSES A GENERATIONAL DIVIDE
The political war between Principal Secretary Shadrack Mwangolo Mwadime and Taveta MP John Bwire is no longer about two politicians exchanging accusations. It is rapidly evolving into something much bigger: a battle between the old political establishment and a younger generation demanding a greater say in the future of Taita Taveta.

CHURU CHURU PROJECTS HAZIJENGI TAIFA

A TEACHER’S CRY FOR JUSTICE
By an ECDE Teacher
Tonight, many of us are struggling to find the strength to continue.
For years, we have fought for what we believe are legitimate rights. We fought for Permanent and Pensionable terms. We fought for proper job group placement. We attended meetings, participated in labour processes, and followed every legal procedure…

BEATING CHILDREN IS NOT EDUCATION REFORMS
The growing calls to reintroduce corporal punishment in Kenyan schools are understandable in a country shaken by dormitory fires, student unrest, vandalism, and declining discipline. But understandable does not necessarily mean wise.
The cane did not disappear from Kenyan schools because children suddenly became angels. It was banned because experience had shown that it…

CHURU CHURU PROJECTS VS REAL DEVELOPMENT
Why Taita Taveta Must Stop Celebrating Crumbs While Demanding a Loaf
As the next election season slowly approaches, a familiar political disease is beginning to spread across Taita Taveta.
It starts with a few donations here.
A few handouts there.
A tent today.
A sufuria tomorrow.
A football tournament next weekend.
A handful of…

ECDE STRIKE CONTINUES AS UNION REJECTS COUNTY'S ARREARS COMPUTATION
The standoff between ECDE teachers and the #TaitaTaveta County Government appears set to continue after the Kenya Union of Pre-Primary Education Teachers (KUNOPPET) rejected a salary arrears computation presented by the employer.
According to the union, county officials failed to attend a scheduled meeting and instead submitted a tabulation relating to implementation of the Third and Fourth SRC Circulars affecting education staff.
KUNOPPET argues that the computation, reportedly amounting to approximately KSh 26.5 million, is separate from the arrears that form the basis of the current dispute.
The union maintains that the strike concerns unresolved arrears arising from employment and job-group issues affecting ECDE teachers employed in 2020 and 2021, which it estimates at more than KSh 52 million.
Union officials contend that addressing SRC implementation arrears without resolving the disputed ECDE arrears fails to address the core grievance that led to industrial action.
The development highlights what appears to be a fundamental disagreement between the two sides regarding the nature and extent of the outstanding obligations.
KUNOPPET has indicated that the strike remains in effect and that further consultations are expected before a way forward is determined.
The County Government had not publicly responded to the union's latest claims at the time of publication.
Key Question Going Forward
The issue now appears to be:
Can the County Government publicly provide a detailed breakdown showing:
1. The SRC Circular arrears.
2. The alleged 2020/2021 ECDE grading arrears.
3. Amounts already paid.
4. Amounts still outstanding.
5. A clear payment plan for each category.
Such a report would help teachers, parents, and the public understand exactly where the dispute stands and whether the two parties are discussing the same financial obligations or entirely different claims.
