Marichi at Temple in Ajodhya village, Baleswar, which was stolen in 2017.
This temple is situated 9 km north of Sajanagada. It is on the right side of the road leading from Nilagiri to Mayurbhanj in Baleswar district, Orissa.

The temple is a newly built pidha vimana style building like other temples of Odisha. The temple houses many tantric, Jain and Buddhist images dating back to the late 11th century. It is thought that the Somavamsi Keshari dynasty commissioned the statues. There are many old icons such as the Hindu goddess four-handed Varahi, the Buddha in bhumisparsa or earth touching mudra, a Jain tirthankara or spiritual teacher and the bodhisattva Avalokitesvara.

The central icon is worshiped as the Hindu goddess Durga and next to the image is the Mahayana goddess Marici. The Marici image is flanked by two goddesses. The Garbhagriha or inner sanctum houses three icons from the late 11th century. Durga Puja is a famous festival in this temple.

The #Polonnaruwa_Vatadage is an ancient structure dating back to the Kingdom of Polonnaruwa of #Sri_Lanka. It is believed to have been built during the reign of #Parakramabahu I to hold the Relic of the tooth of the #Buddha or during the reign of #Nissanka_Malla of Polonnaruwa to hold the alms bowl used by the Buddha.

Located within the ancient city of Polonnaruwa, it is the best preserved example of a vatadage in the country, and has been described as the "ultimate development" of this type of architecture. Abandoned for several centuries, excavation work at the Polonnaruwa Vatadage began in 1903.

Rare statue of Ugrachandi in Basantapur Chowk in Bhaktapur – a statue so stunning it cost the sculptor his hand

In 1707 CE King Bhupatindra (1696 to 1722) commissioned the sculpting of the goddess Ugrachandi. The result of the stone masons work is clear to all. The statue of Ugrachandi is truly intricate, detailed and stunning. The eighteen-armed goddess is depicted dispatching a fallen enemy with her trident and a guardian lion.

King Bhupatindra also thought the statue was beautiful. In fact he was so impressed with the stone masons work he didn’t want any of the other kings within the Kathmandu valley to have a statue like it. So, he chopped of the masons right hand.

Chandi or Chandika is a powerful form of Parvati, who manifested to destroy evil. Chandika is an avatar of Durga. The three principal forms of Durga worshipped are Mahagauri, Chandika and Aparajita. The Mahadeva Temple at Itagi in Koppal District of Karnataka, is a highly ornate example of Chalukya style architecture.

Built in 1112 A.D. the Temple’s carvings, sculptures, pillars and tower is an excellent example of Western Chalukyan art and speaks volumes about the skills of the artisans in those days.

The temple stands amidst fortified walls that were probably added in the 16th century. The vimanam (temple tower) is 216 ft (66 m) high and is the tallest in the world. The Kumbam (the apex or the bulbous structure on the top) of the temple is carved out of a single rock and weighs around 80 tons. There is a big statue of Nandi (sacred bull), carved out of a single rock measuring about 16 ft (4.9 m) long and 13 ft (4.0 m) high at the entrance. The entire temple structure is made out of granite, the nearest sources of which are about 60 km to the west of temple. The temple is one of the most visited tourist attractions in Tamil Nadu.
