#Karkala is known for several significant Jain Temples and 42 ft (13 m) monolithic statue of #Gomateshwara #Bahubali, which is believed to have been built around 1432 and is the second-tallest statue in #Karnataka (First one is #Shravanabelagola, Karnataka)
The statue is built on an elevated platform on top of a rocky hill. It was consecrated on 13 February 1432 by #Virapandya of #Kalasa- Karkala kingdom.

18 साल बाद बाहर आया हांफेश्वर मंदिर, देखें नजारा
नर्मदा नदी गुजरात की जीवन रेखा है। भीषण गर्मी के कारण इसका पानी सूखने लगा है। दिनों-दिन इसका जलस्तर कम हो रहा है। इससे सरकार ही नहीं आम आदमी भी चिंतित है। ऐसे में ऐतिहासिक शिवमंदिर अब दिखाई देने लगा है। इससे शिवभक्तों में अपार खुशी है। लोग दूर-दूर से यहां दर्शन के लिए आने लगे हैँ। नर्मदा नदी पर सरदार सरोवर डेम बनने के बाद कवांट तहसील में स्थित हांफेश्वर मंदिर पूरी तरह से डूब गया था। अब 18 साल बाद यह मंदिर फिर दिखाई देने लगा है।
मार्केंडेय ऋषि ने कठोर तप किया था
हांफेश्वर इस गांव का नाम है, जहां शिवालय में कलहंसेश्वर महादेव विराजमान हैं। कहा जाता है कि ऋषि मार्केंडेय ने यहां कलहंसशेश्वर के रूप में शिव की प्रागट्य कथा युधिष्ठिर को सुनाई थी। इस कथा के अनुसार जगत का यदि वैभव चाहिए, तो तुरंत ही मिल जाएगा, किंतु उस महातपस्वी ने केवल शंकर भगवान के दर्शन की इच्छा व्यक्त की। आखिर में देवराज के आशीर्वाद से महादेव ने कलहंस को दर्शन दिया। ऋषि ने शंकर भगवान के सामने यह इच्छा व्यक्त की कि आपके भक्तों को यहां सदैव आपकी अनुभूति हो।
