Seated Ganesha.
India (Orissa), 14th–15th centurys Ivory.

This ivory statuette depicts Ganesha, Hindu god of auspiciousness. Details suggest that this ivory sculpture of the elephant-headed god was carved in the Orissa region in the fourteenth or fifteenth century. The Hindu god of auspiciousness, elephant-headed Ganesha is one of the most popular gods in India. He removes all obstacles, so devotion to him is important to assure auspicious beginnings in such ventures as starting a business, getting married, beginning a new school year, creating a work of art, or taking a long trip.

An extremely rare sculpture of a 9th century 4 headed Bhagwan, Kashmir.

This sculpture form of Vishnu Ji, first referred to by the name #Vaikuntha in the 7th century Vishnudharmottarapurana, is four-faced (chaturmurti), with the heads of a lion (right) and a boar (left) flanking a human head.
He is also identifiable in this form by the epithet Para-Vasudeva, “the highest god.” The lion & boar represent Vishnu’s Varaha & Narasimha avatars. Carved in low relief on the back of the halo is the 4th face, a demonic, grimacing representation with fangs & a vertical 3rd eye on the forehead. The small attendant on Vishnu’s left is Chakrapurusha, the personification of his war discus, originally balanced on his right by Gadadevi, the female personification of his battle mace. The earth goddess Prithvi, stands between Vishnu’s legs.

Think how beautiful the whole temple would have been when one pillar is so beautiful.

The first ray of the sun in this temple falls on the Shivalinga located in the womb of the temple. The temple's architecture is such that the first ray of dawn falls on the Shivling of Lord Bholenath, tearing the small door of the observatory, mandap and the womb. As the sun rises, we pray to Bholenath and ask for permission to spread light in the world.

In the past, this temple was surrounded by eight small temples and a huge fourdivari. Turkish invaders attacked this temple in 1336-38 and built a mosque near it with its remains.

The Swayambhuvu is situated in about 120 mts. height having about 615 steps which are very keen and because of this keen formation of the hill the village is named as “Korukonda”.The deity which is a Swayambhuvu appears in a holy place at the top of the hill measuring about 9 inches.
It is really wonder and mankind could not be instate either the deity or any other stone which is about 120 mts. height, the temple which was constructed long long back have got much Silpa Soundaram around it.There are number of Sila – Sasanams appeared in the temple and as well as on the top hill of the temple. The temple was constructed about 700 – 800 years back and the family of Parasara Bhattar were looking the affairs of the temple and the same tradition is still being continued by recognizing the family members as founder trustee.
There is no doubt this is a very good looking place having site seeings through out the hill and steps. The great poet Sri Srinatha in his poetry prayed the God stated, this Korukonda is “Vedadri”. This was supported by Sila – Sasanam which was found at Lakshmaneswaram Village, Narsapur Taluk, W.G.Dt. which related to 1443 A.D.

जितना गहरा खोदोगे,उतना गहरा सनातन पाओगे।

Beautiful Idol of #Channakeshava Swamy found while sand mining.

Hassan: Original idol of
Channakeshava Swamy has been
found in
#Halebelluru village of
#Sakaleshpur taluk.
Since ancient times, there was a
proposal called Channakeshava
Swamy's original home, Halebeluru, as a proof for this, there is a temple of
#Hoysala's time in the village. In this village, Hoysala was ahead of the construction of Channakeshava
Swamy temple. But due to the fear of the attacks of Palegars to
Channakeshava temple construction scheme was moved to
#Belur.
Because of this reason the village is named Hale Belur. As the ages have rolled, there is a hope that the people have become old Belur-Hale Belur. For this saying, a four feet tall Channakeshava Swamy statue was found while sand mining on the banks
of the
#Hemavathi river flowing in the outside of the village two days ago. The villagers have protected it and taken it to the temple.

Unsolved mystery of the musical pillars in Nellaiappar Temple since 1300+ years.

A cluster of 48 pillars were carved from a single rock, & they surround a central pillar. The pillars can produce the 7 basic musical notes !!

There are 161 pillars in total that make the musical sounds. Interestingly, surrounding pillars vibrate when one of them is tapped.

Our Temples are marvel of engineering & technology !!
