Israeli filmmakers decry ‘unprecedented campaign of incitement’ against ‘NAZA’ creators

Over a thousand Israeli filmmakers signed a petition expressing solidarity with "NAZA" creators, Yuval Abraham and Rachel Szor, stating that "we have witnessed an unprecedented campaign of incitement" against Abraham and Szor, "and the distance between it and the incitement to violence and physical threat to their lives is shrinking."

On Sunday, Culture Minister Miki Zohar said he would seek to revoke Abraham and Szor's citizenship, describing their film as "vile" and saying it "constitutes treason." Former Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman, who leads the right-wing, anti-Netanyahu party Yisrael Beiteinu, called Abraham and Szor "enemies of Israel."

"We, filmmakers, call on all who are still fighting for freedom of expression and creation to join in expressing support and solidarity with" the two, the petition said, adding that "the central role of art and journalism is to hold a mirror up to the society in which they exist, to create discourse and discussion without assumptions, even when the reality is difficult."
