RT @JohnH105: Last week the HUR said Russia is developing a version of the Kinzhal missile that swaps out the penetrating HE warhead for an HE frag warhead, likely because the latter requires less accuracy. According to HUR, Russia had suspended Kinzhal production at least partly due to accuracy issues and shifted resources to 9M723 Iskander production (see below).

https://www.pravda.com.ua/eng/news/2026/10/12/8057546/index.amp

HUR deputy head Vadym Skibitskyi says Russia is currently exceeding its monthly production targets for key missiles.
- Monthly target for 9M723 Iskander is 60, but produced 65 in July.
- July and August production targets for Kh-101 = 72 missiles per month, but produced 87 in July.
- July and August production targets for Kalibr = 26 missiles per month, but produced 29 in July.
- Reached annual target for Tsirkon (33 missiles) and Oniks (60 missiles) in seven months. Oniks was upgraded to accuracy against ground targets and to increase range and warhead.
- Fulfilled July target for Kh-35 by 200%
- August production target for RM-48U is ~40 missiles. Estimated stockpile of 400 missiles. Mach 6 velocity.

Russia achieved this increase in production partly by simplifying quality-control requirements and by “suspending” [or just reducing?] production of Kh-32 and Kinzhal since April. For more details on decrease in Kinzhal production: https://x.com/JohnH105/status/2062596899102703956). “They had been working to improve the accuracy of the Kh-32. However, the results of several combat tests showed that they were unable to do so, so the Russians sent the missiles back for further development and suspended their serial production. They have similar issues with Kinzhal missiles. We can hardly recall a case when this missile hit its target accurately. For an effective missile, the deviation from the target should not exceed 5-7 meters, while theirs is 30 meters or more.”

The Russians "are not really drawing down their stockpiles. Almost everything being used now is coming straight off the production line. The only exception is the Kalibr missiles - most of them are currently being allocated to other Russian fleets, since all new Russian warships and submarines are equipped with these systems. In effect, those missiles are going into reserve stockpiles... According to military intelligence, as of August 5, the stockpile allocated to the Russian military grouping stood at around 130 9M723 missiles."

Russia launched 61 ballistic missiles in April, 107 in May, 134 in June, and 198 in July. For cruise missiles, July ranked second in 2026 (with 153) behind February (157). Russia began using more Banderol and Dan-T this year.

Russian barrages are currently focused on 1) Ukraine’s defense industry (particularly ballistic missile and UAS production) and 2) logistics (railways, port infrastructure, shipping, Rozetka/Nova Poshta, etc). Moscow also seeks to destabilize Kyiv politically, coupling strikes with information operations saying Ukrainian authorities cannot defend the country.

BIG | 🇮🇱🇸🇾‼️‼️ Israeli forces are reportedly establishing a military installation on Jabal al-Arab in Syria’s southern Suwayda province, potentially including advanced radar systems and surveillance equipment.

A local source told Syria 360 that dozens of Israeli military helicopters had transported substantial quantities of weapons, equipment, and advanced technology to the mountainous area over the past 72 hours. According to the report, the operation is intended to support the construction of a military base near the summit. Local Druze authorities have also reportedly prohibited civilians from approaching the facilities or taking photographs. The reported deployment and construction activities have not been independently verified.

A military installation on Jabal al-Arab could provide Israel with a strategically valuable position for monitoring southern Syria and detecting potential aerial threats. The mountainous terrain would offer advantages for radar coverage, surveillance, and early warning capabilities. A permanent Israeli military presence in the area, however, would also raise serious questions about Syrian sovereignty and could further complicate the already fragile security situation in southern Syria.

BIG | 🇺🇦🇷🇺‼️ Ukraine says the city of Dobropillia remains firmly under Ukrainian control, rejecting Russian claims that its forces have captured the strategically important city in Donetsk Oblast.

According to Kyrylo Budanov, the commander of Russia’s Central Grouping of Forces is providing Vladimir Putin with misleading battlefield reports while assigning unrealistic objectives to subordinate units in an effort to claim the capture of Dobropillia at any cost. Budanov emphasized that Ukrainian defense forces continue holding their positions and that Moscow’s claims do not reflect the situation on the ground.

Russia’s attempts to portray Dobropillia as captured highlight the growing importance of battlefield narratives alongside military operations. Ukrainian forces continue defending the area, while unsupported Russian claims of territorial gains risk creating a misleading picture of the actual frontline situation.

RT @NSTRIKE1231: BIG | 🇺🇦🇷🇺‼️ Ukrainian forces under General Andrii Biletskyi have halted Russian advances along the Sloviansk–Kramatorsk axis and launched counteroffensive operations after stabilizing a critical section of the frontline.

According to Biletskyi, commander of Ukraine’s Center Group of Forces, improved coordination between the 3rd and 11th Army Corps has enabled Ukrainian troops to stabilize a strategically important sector and transition from defensive operations to offensive action.

“This is a key sector at this stage of the war, accounting for 26% of the entire frontline. In other words, every fourth kilometer of the front is now directly under our group’s responsibility,” Biletskyi stated.

He also reported positive operational developments across all three corps operating under his command.

🔥 Stabilizing the Sloviansk–Kramatorsk axis is strategically significant because the area forms part of Ukraine’s remaining defensive network in Donetsk Oblast. Improved coordination between Ukrainian corps could strengthen defensive resilience, enable more effective deployment of reserves and create opportunities for localized counterattacks. The reported transition to offensive operations suggests that Ukrainian commanders are seeking not only to contain Russian advances but also to regain the battlefield initiative in selected sectors.

RT @NSTRIKE1231: BIG | 🇺🇦🇷🇺‼️ General Kyrylo Budanov has firmly rejected Russian claims of advances into Dobropillia, declaring that the city remains under Ukrainian control and that any suggestion of its capture by Russian forces is unfounded.

Budanov, head of Ukraine’s Presidential Office, accused the commander of Russia’s Central Group of Forces of providing misleading information to Vladimir Putin while assigning unrealistic objectives to subordinate units. According to Budanov, the Russian commander is attempting to report the capture of Dobropillia at any cost, regardless of the actual battlefield situation. He emphasized that Ukrainian Defense Forces continue to hold their positions and that false Russian declarations cannot change the reality on the ground.

🔥 Control of Dobropillia remains strategically important to Ukrainian defensive operations in the Donetsk region. Budanov’s allegations also raise questions about the reliability of battlefield reporting within Russia’s military command structure. Inflated territorial claims and unrealistic operational objectives can create additional pressure on frontline formations, while the actual military situation ultimately depends on territorial control rather than official declarations.

RT @NSTRIKE1231: BIG | 🇺🇦🇷🇺‼️ The battle for Dobropillia is intensifying as Russian infiltration groups penetrate parts of the city, despite Ukrainian forces maintaining overall control. Russian troops have begun filming flag-raising videos in several neighborhoods for propaganda purposes, while the urban gray zone continues to expand.

Russian forces have spent weeks attempting to enter Dobropillia through two main approaches, one from the northeast and another, more recently established, from the southwest. Following the reported capture of Bilytske and Shevchenko, Russian infiltration has intensified along the southern outskirts, with contested areas extending into parts of the city itself.

Ukrainian forces retain important defensive advantages, including control of the flanks and established defensive lines protecting the city’s rear, eastern and northern approaches. The Azov Corps of Ukraine’s National Guard is among the formations defending the area, while Ukrainian strategic reserves reportedly remain positioned behind the frontline.

The approaching seasonal changes could significantly affect the fighting. Falling leaves may reduce concealment for Russian infiltration groups, while heavy autumn fog could interfere with Ukrainian drone operations and create opportunities for larger mechanized assaults.

🔥 Dobropillia is emerging as a critical test of Ukraine’s ability to contain Russian infiltration without losing control of the wider defensive perimeter. Russian flag-raising footage does not necessarily establish territorial control, particularly where small assault groups operate inside contested urban areas. The decisive question will be whether Ukrainian forces can prevent isolated Russian penetrations from developing into sustained positions while preserving their defensive lines and operational reserves.

BIG | 🇷🇺🇵🇱🇱🇹‼️‼️ Russia is constructing a massive long-range radar complex in Kaliningrad, potentially capable of detecting aerial activity across thousands of kilometers of European NATO territory, as Moscow continues expanding its military infrastructure along the alliance’s eastern flank.

Satellite imagery published on October 19 shows the facility under construction near Gvardeysk, approximately 32 kilometers from Poland and 64 kilometers from Lithuania. Images obtained by Finnish satellite company ICEYE reveal three antenna arrays, each roughly 500 meters long. The installation is believed to be an over-the-horizon radar system, potentially capable of detecting targets at distances between 900 and 3,000 kilometers, depending on its final specifications. Such coverage could extend toward Germany, France, and the United Kingdom. ICEYE has also identified more than 20 electronic intelligence and warfare facilities in Kaliningrad, alongside a large circular antenna complex under construction near Chernyakhovsk, protected fighter aircraft shelters at Chkalovsk Air Base, and S-400 air defense systems in the Baltiysk area. Additional Russian military construction is underway in Karelia and the Leningrad Military District near Finland, while a major ammunition storage facility is being developed near Slutsk in Belarus. The radar’s operational date and final capabilities remain unknown.

The expansion reflects Russia’s continued investment in surveillance, electronic warfare, and air defense capabilities close to NATO territory. A functioning over-the-horizon radar could significantly improve Moscow’s ability to monitor long-range aerial movements and provide earlier warning of military activity across Europe. Combined with reinforced air bases, missile defenses, and logistical infrastructure, these developments could strengthen Russia’s regional military posture and complicate NATO operational planning, particularly around the Baltic states and Poland.

RT @CasualArtyFan: During WW2, mountaineering, night operations and much more were considered “special” operations.

SOF is defined by what cannot be done with “regular” units and is always changing.

Fascinating to think we might entering an era where armored maneuver is Special Operations.

"During Operation Vivaldi, units of the 3rd Army Corps successfully used armored vehicles twice to conduct mechanized assaults behind Russian lines...

According to Biletskyi, armored vehicles can no longer serve as a conventional reserve rapidly deployed after an enemy breakthrough.

'Today, the use of armored vehicles is effectively a special operation. It requires extremely detailed planning and the coordination of a huge number of assets,' he explained...

The first mechanized assault helped Ukrainian forces partially encircle the settlement of Nove.

During the second assault, Ukrainian armored vehicles advanced about 4.5 km behind Russian lines and deployed infantry in the rear of Russian units. The Ukrainian troops then attacked wooded areas where Russian drone operators were stationed.

According to Biletskyi, losing these positions deprived Russian forces of some reconnaissance capabilities and FPV drones, allowing Ukrainian units to keep advancing.

The deployed Ukrainian infantry operated virtually surrounded for several days while continuing to destroy Russian drone operators’ positions. Biletskyi said he believes the raid contributed to the subsequent collapse of a significant section of Russian defenses."
