BIG | 🇵🇱🇷🇺🇺🇦‼️‼️ Vladimir Putin’s ambition has always been to restore a Greater Russia, according to former Polish President Aleksander Kwaśniewski, who says the Russian leader personally revealed this objective to him more than two decades ago.
In an interview with Deutsche Welle, Kwaśniewski, who served as Poland’s president from 1995 to 2005, recalled meeting Putin approximately 20 times between 2000 and 2005. During one meeting at Putin’s residence, he asked about his ultimate goal. Putin allegedly replied that he wanted to restore a Greater Russia. Kwaśniewski warned that such an ambition could not be realized without Ukraine, Belarus, the Caucasus and Central Asia.
The former president’s account offers a historical perspective on Russia’s territorial ambitions and its war against Ukraine. It also highlights why countries with experience of Soviet domination view Moscow’s expansionist rhetoric as a long-term security concern rather than a threat limited to Ukraine.
