RT @NSTRIKE1231: BREAKING | 🇺🇸🇷🇺🇺🇦‼️ Donald Trump has signed the Lindsey Graham sanctions legislation targeting Russia but simultaneously suspended its implementation indefinitely, leaving sweeping new economic penalties against Moscow unenforced.

Under the legislation, Trump was required to authorize the sanctions by October 18. However, after signing the measure, he invoked a national-interest waiver allowing their implementation to be postponed. In a separate Friday order, the president stated that he was suspending the sanctions, restrictions and tariffs provided for under the legislation, informing Congress that the delay served U.S. national interests. The suspended measures include tariffs of up to 500% on Russian goods and 100% on imports from countries heavily purchasing Russian oil and gas or facilitating sanctions evasion. The restrictions will remain on hold unless the administration decides to activate them. The move follows Trump’s earlier decision to lift restrictions on Russian diesel purchases after speaking with Vladimir Putin. Russian officials welcomed the latest decision, while lawmakers from both American parties criticized it.

🔥 The distinction is crucial: Trump has not repealed the sanctions law, but his decision prevents its economic penalties from taking effect. By delaying measures targeting Russian energy revenues and the countries sustaining them, Washington is withholding a potentially powerful instrument of pressure on Moscow. The immediate consequence is that Russia avoids additional U.S. economic restrictions at a time when its war against Ukraine continues.

The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) Center has issued a pair of warnings following incidents Friday involving tankers in the Persian Gulf northeast of Al Jubayl, Saudi Arabia.

In the first incident, a tanker was struck by an unknown projectile about 68 nautical miles northeast of Al Jubayl. Its crew was evacuated and is reported safe. In the second, a tanker’s master reported an attack by a rocket propelled grenade (RPG) fired from a small boat about 78 nautical miles northeast of Al Jubayl, damaging the aft port quarter. All crew are accounted for and reported safe.

The reports come amid escalating attacks on commercial shipping in and around the Strait of Hormuz. Windward counted at least 23 attacks in the two weeks ending October 14, with vessels reportedly sunk and mariners killed and injured.

RT @KroumBalabanov: @BiankaB12 @Felix_Nuno At this stage it doesn’t really matter whether he’s a Russian asset, whether he is consumed by greed or completely immoral. Or just a useful idiot given his ignorance. Maybe it’s a confluence of motives. He acts in Russia’s interests. Not American, European, Ukrainian or Western.

Zelensky's other statements today.

Easing sanctions doesn't stop Putin, it just makes him feel supported.

Ukraine and US negotiators could meet this week.

Ukraine wants dialogue to end the war, with an energy ceasefire as the minimum goal.

Russia will try to recover some frozen assets through partners, and Ukraine has intel on these plans.

There are important agreements on air defense and funding, Ukraine needs an extra 70 billion euros for 2027, and European partners haven't said no.

Zelensky says the easing of sanctions will keep going, calling the diesel deal just a first step. He argues this won't stop Putin, who instead feels emboldened by such support, and it certainly won't end the war.

UKMTO’s latest weekly overview shows attacks on commercial shipping around the Strait of Hormuz running at their highest pace since March. The agency counted 12 attacks in the week ending October 16: 10 in the strait, one in the Persian Gulf and one in the Gulf of Oman. One vessel was lost, two were disabled and three have unconfirmed outcomes. Joint Maritime Information Center threat levels remain “severe” for the strait and “moderate” for the Persian Gulf and Gulf of Oman.

Since the conflict began February 28th, UKMTO has logged 135 reported events, including 114 reports of damage to vessels and 76 people killed or injured. The agency also warns it is “struggling to accurately report” the true number of attacks because most vessels attacked refuse to report it. The two tanker incidents off Al Jubayl below came after this reporting period.
