The post offers plausible technical explanations for the failure. The missiles that struck Kyiv were reportedly S-400 surface-to-air missiles fired in ground-attack mode. Their small, short-burning motors, combined with a shallower trajectory, make them harder to detect. Their early flight also resembles routine air-defense launches, which complicates classification.

Still, a deliberate decision to curtail warnings cannot be ruled out at this stage, and unfortunately for Ukraine, Europe offers no near-term substitute. The Franco-German JEWEL program, arguably the most direct alternative, will not reach initial operational capability before the early to mid-2030s.

For the rest of this decade, Ukraine and Europe will remain dependent on Washington’s willingness to share what its satellites see.

ProPublica: Trump Appointees Wanted a Voting Machine Hacked

A few months into President Donald Trump’s second term, political appointees at the Department of Homeland Security made an unusual request of its agency focused on cybersecurity: Secretly acquire a voting machine and hack it.

The appointees wanted the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency to procure the machine, examine it and report back the findings so they could be given to the White House, according to two former administration officials with knowledge of the request.

A senior Syrian government official told i24NEWS that Damascus expects Druze armed groups in al-Sweida province to launch an attack on government forces in the coming days, with Israeli encouragement and support.

The official said Israeli aerial intelligence gathering over al-Sweida has increased, along with reconnaissance flights over Damascus and southern Syria, and claimed an Israeli helicopter landed in al-Sweida carrying large quantities of weapons and ammunition.

European arrest warrants were approved by a Bulgarian court for Tirpan Beitula and Zeka Islam, two German passport holders accused of torching Starlink antennas at the Plana Teleport south of Sofia.

11 of the 18 high frequency antennas were destroyed in the October 9 fire. Both were charged in absentia and face 3 to 12 years in prison.

UPDATE: A U.S. official has denied reports that American forces attacked Iran's Konarak naval base, in an interview with CNN.

A spokesman for the Iranian Navy claims to Al-Jazeera that two projectiles launched by American forces hit a 35mm cannon at Konorak Naval Base last night.

Two Islamic Republic of Iran Navy personnel were injured, according to the same spokesman. CENTCOM has yet to confirm responsibility.

September 1 was the last time the U.S. military struck targets on Iranian soil, nearly two months ago. An IRGC response is possible. - Open Source Intel
