It does not escape me that ATACMS defeated the vaunted S-400 in a head-to-head match.

FYI... ATACMS are not ballistic.

They're throwing a tantrum. Ukraine must have done more damage than we expected.

Russia is currently hammering Ukraine pretty hard especially in the Port of Odesa. Russian proxies claim the attack is revenge for the AFU missile strike yesterday on #Kerch.

In the mind of the Russian commanders, the message is, "You may have forced us to move our Navy away from Crimea, but we can still shut down your sea trade by destroying your ports."

The real message is that the Black Sea naval fleet was forced to retreat from Crimea by a country without a navy.

But I digress...

Reports from Russian and Ukrainian sources indicate the assault was completely defeated including at least 19 pieces of armor.

Russian TG Channel "Living Z" is livid and and quoted a Russian VDV (airborne) captain who is calling for "punitive" action against the commanders for these "rash orders."

Opinion

It is very likely that Russia managed to destroy portions of Ukraine's Patriot Air Defense Systems during the massive Russian missile strikes between December 31, 2023, and January 2, 2024, on #Kyiv an other locations. As a result, large portions of Ukraine are currently vulnerable to Russian missile strikes -- particularly the Kh-47M2 Kinzhal and Kh-22 Kitchen.

The Russian strategy during those strike was both well conceived and effective. In short, the Russians used a combination of real and decoy missiles, coordinated timing, overwhelming numbers, airborne reconnaissance assets, ELINT, COMMINT and HUMINT to time the attacks in such a way as to exploit vulnerabilities during reloading of the weapons.

January 8, 2023: "This morning the Ukrainian Armed Forces managed to shoot down only 18 Russian missiles out of 51 due to a shortage of Patriot and similar systems, said Air Force Speaker Yuri Ignat."
