My neighbor with the victron system built it into the last 8' of a shipping container. The room is insulated but the afternoon sun is really starting to raise the temperature inside. He's resisting putting a window shaker air conditioner in the room. He's gunna try to 1)pull air into the room from the shaded area between the two containers, and 2) he's building a car port roof in front of the container to shade that west wall from heat gain. These shade cloths are temporary until he can get his welder to visit and weld up some perlens for him.
I told him to put a water sprinker on the shade cloths as well.
The graphs dont' show the peaks very accurately... yesterday the temperature in the mech room got to 102F 39C.

Because of the flat angle of this roof, I had to overpanel this system by almost 3:1 to get his winter production. But from mid-february until mid-december, he will always over produce. His power company charges him a minimum monthly bill of $36. We just learned today that they charge a $30 disconnect and reconnect fee. So he could disconnect his service in March and reconnect in December. Ultimately, I think if he adds one more battery he can coast thru any winter day. Once we verify that this coming winter, he might have to run a generator 2 days a year. At that point it'll make no sense at all to even have the grid connected to his property.

One of our group memebers who wishes to remain anon is sending me pics of his progress.
1) he installed an Emporia Vue to measure usage of several of his larger loads and total power draw. This has been very valuable because we can see things like a 26kw spike.
From this we've determined that he spends enough time with a draw of 13kw plus the surges that he needs two 12000xp inverters. Their rated surge is 18kw for 5 seconds, so for him that's 36kw of surge.

sNext we figured out how much power he'd need and I modeled it in PVwatts. He's in the southern 1/3 of Florida around 27latitude. We always want to model the production curve for each time of year to match your consumption. Since his energy usage is primarly Air Cond, we decided that a flat array would make peak power in sumer and very little in winter... he's not using as much in winter. So it's ok that less power is made in winter. We decided that a 3degree tilt will allow a little rain water run off.
The lower end will be 16" off the ground and the high end about 30". He found some 2" pipe for a good price and is just using a slide hammer to drive the pipe in the ground.
I usually recommend the panels and racking weighs 13lbs per sqft but he consulted with a civil engineer and that guy said because they are so low and the load is spread across 40 posts, he's not worried about pull out in the wind.
I know the drawing shows square posts, hes using round pipe.

Unfortunately panels don't come in 32 to a pallet. So he's getting multiples of 31 panels. Since he's doing two arrays that means he'll have 62 panels. Since we can't use more than 8 in a string, he's going to have 8s2p, 8s2p for MPPT inputs on one 12000xp and 8s2p and 7s2p on the other 12000xp MPPT inputs. If he can get the retailer to bust open a pallet for him and sell him two additional panels that woudl be great.
So as it is, he's going to have two 30ft x 30ft 9mx9m arrays flat in his yard, not even higher than the fence around the property. There will be an 8ft gap for lawn mowing between them.

Free to a good home. Drive here to middle of SC to get it.

The chicken palace is coming together. Got the elk antler door handle, have the run area all covered in wire. Need to figure out wheels for the beast, mill some boards for the trim and it will be pretty sweet. I'm going to extend the predator mats down the length of the run area. Pretty sure nothing is getting in there.

Well today starts new project. We are flipping some things around in the basement ahead of installing a walk in cooler / freezer. So today we took some harbor freight dollies apart and made platforms to put the two freezers on. We have a fridge and two freezers in the basement. So we moved them closer toward the walk in entrance so we can get them out once the walk in is done.
So far I'm planning to drive to South Georgia Wednesday to get a walk in out of an old pizza hut. Presently it's 12x16 ft 3m x 4m. I have to reconfigure the panels to become 92" wide so it'll be 92" wide and 16' long... you walk into the cooler and then thru into the freezer.
