Presbyterian Minister says that if Jesus was alive he would've probably said "blessed are those who end their pregnancies."
I didn't turn my back on religion... the church moved away from me.

Today the farrier came to trim the horse hooves. The dogs love him because they get those "treats". So some of the older goats... the ones I can't bring myself to butcher.... needed their hooves trimmed to. Now I know how.
We flipped each goat on it's back and one of them was paniced. I touched his face and made him look at me and he calmed right down.

Guys, I'm in a quandary.... I'm out of material for hte kids channel. Setting Roots has been a jewel helping contribute material. But as for me, I find that when I ponder things to post there I'm tending to get more and more towards engineering and high maths which are just too specific.
So if you have content that would be appropriate there or wanna become an admin there and post things yourself, let me know. I'm out of ideas.

We made more progress recently on the new fencing. After getting the 18" corner posts set previously, my best friend drove 2 hours to help me put in the Tposts for the outside perimeter fence. Hard to believe but that was an all day event. We used the tractor to push in those we could, but the ground is still really hard and so we had to put in about a third with a Tpost driver. When we tried to push the posts in with the tractor, the ground was so hard and dry that the posts would bend. Im here to tell you that this motorized tpost driver is worth every penny!!! Its dlower than the tractor but works when tge tractor method won't. We were also able to put in several 14" gates that allow me to get the cows in and out at set entry points with a physical barrier. We've found that when cows learn that certain places are the standard entry and exit points, they tend to view them more as the only ways out. Next is to pull the wire for the perimeter and for the interior paddocks. This pasture will have 9 paddocks.

The guy that rents out pasture for hay came and cut yesterday. Turns out he ran over another little fawn and killed it. So that's one I almost hit yesterday bushhogging, another in a hollow tree and this poor little fella.
Ever the practical guy, I took the little fawn and used the remains to bait a trap for what ever has been getting our chickens. Now we wait.

This is what I love about the victron smart shunt. it's been 4 days since I hit 100% on my batteries and I had a 1% error in SoC.
At 12:54 today the battery stopped accepting current which means it is full... and the SoC reading jumped from 99% to 100%... 1% error. Previously I've gone 11 days without hitting 100% and the error then was about 4%.

I caught a possum in my barnyard last night. What are the odds a possum would eat small chicks?

Well this is fun.... falls under the category of safety. I have several AC coupled inverters that make 240v. Two are "inside" the house and one of them is "direct to grid" but on a transfer switch. You see I make more power than my battery inverter can export so I bypass and go direct to grid most days. In the past several days it was so cloudy, I moved the transfer switch to "inside" so all my PV power would be in the house for self consumption. Then I forgot about the transfer switch.
So this morning all my inverters were making so much power that the batteries couldn't take all of it and it joined the grid and started exporting power. problem is, I was exporting >14kw from a 12kw inverter. So the system auto disconnected from the grid. I found it two hours later when I came in for lunch. I tried to force it to connect and it now exported 15kw for a minute and disconnected.
I finally found my mistake and diverted 6kw of juice to the grid directly. I really need to automate that switch so I don't forget in the future.
Now the safety part. That was on a breaker rated for 13.2kw and it would have tripped if the inverter hadn't tripped within a minute each time. This is the belt and suspenders approach. Two safeties for when we do bone head things.

Here you can see that it was exporting 13kw or so.... when it tipped the scale to 14kw the inverter tripped out. and further to the right you can see where I forced it on grid again and it exported 15kw.
Some day I may upgrade my inverters to just deal with all the power we can make in a simple way.
