I have never ever done this and cannot tell you if it works or not, because I would never break the law of course but I IMAGINE that its PROBABLY single shot/manual cycling due to cycling issues but extremely quiet, I WOULD GUESS, due to my NEVER having actually attempted this

For discussion in the group.... If you wnated to convert a pole barn into a house consider this.... If the pole barn is made of 8"x8" posts, then the actual thickness is 7.25". When it's time to fill in the 10ft gaps between posts, you could build walls out of double 2x4s. Since a 2x4 is actually 3.5", built two walls... 3.5"wall stud + 0.25"gap+ 3.5" wall stud.

What this accomplishes is a thermal break in the wall studs.

Now you have a wall cavity that is 7.25" thick. Get batts of insulation for 2x6 walls, they will be 5.25" thick, and get batts for 2x4 walls, that'll be 3.5". It'll be a little snug in there, but the wall will close up just fine.

Yes, every 10' you will have thermal conducitvity thru the 8x8 posts.

One of the locals here found a unicorn of a shipping container... 40ft, doors on both ends and a high cube. The problem is that it was/is a single use container, never intended to be returned to Chyna. So he's had it 3 years and the thin coat of paint they put on it is wearing thru and the roof is starting to rust on him. If you get a single use container, you better count on painting it.

Another note on the high cube container... He's building a mech room inside for his batteries and inverters, also it'll be a workshop. Since it has doors at both ends, he started teh first wall 8' from one end so he can park his zero turn mower or motorcycle in there. The room is 12ft long, so that leaves about 19' inside the "long end" for storage.

The high cube allows him to build a standard 8ft tall wall. What we did was get some 1/2" 4x8 sheets of foam board with mylar coatiing on one side. It's a radiant barrier. Then we stood up a framed wall and he's going to put 3" thick poly iso foam in the cavities, then 3/4 plywood for a good surface for mounting inverters.

Another detail is that since it is a high cube, he's got a significant airgap between the roof of container and the celing of that room. With both end doors open on the container you get a nice breeze thru to remove any residual heat.

He caught a 4th of july sale on a 9k btu minisplit as well.

If any of you are looking for a way to keep track of your food preps, this might be a good one. https://preppervault.net/ . Keeps track of expiration dates, calories and so forth. You can scan the EAN or UPC code on the can or box when updating inventory.

Rolling can rack. We build a version of this in our basement. I started using the plastic drywall corners but they bow and bend a lot. I found metal drywall corners only require a screw at each end and not in the middle. Makes it easier to reconfigure in the future.

This is the can rack wife and I built. Just enough slope for the cans to naturally roll. We used dry wall corners as guides for each column of cans. Feed it from the back, remove cans from front. Note that the bottom racks are full length, an the top shelves are divided into two sections.

I connect to the grid and buy power (or run generator) when my battery hits 14% or lower. This morning it was hovering at 16%.... 15....16. 15... and I had to buy power. damn it. It's been cloudy for 3 days. Oh and daughter came over last night and cooked her lunches for the week. yeah that didn't help either.

I drove past Pedro's South of The Border today and on a lark thought how cool it would be to have a mesh repeater up there at 200ft. So i did a coverage map that includes a soon to be installed mesh repeater at 400ft in Florence SC.
