Here's some cool stuff you can do with home assistant or an emporia Vue. I've polling production data from each of my solar MPPTs and also have some Shelly PM1 power measurement devices measuring various things around the house like the water pump and water heater.
Being able to see usage helps you know 1)how much solar, 2)how much inverter, 3)how much battery.
You can do the same with an Emporia Vue device for $150.

Someone just told me the neatest trick. Have an analog 120v mains powered clock in your kitchen plugged in the same socket as your fridge. If you come home and the clock is two hours slow you know the power was out for two hours.

We just spoke about this in the group this morning. My friend Mike at Kilkenny Homestead just made the same point made here this morning.... buy the best inverter you can and add other components as you go. Don't cheap out and paint yourself in a corner. The panels are the cheapest part and you can just keep adding them thru time.

Sometimes I post things that are financial related here... I put it under the umbrella of "get your house in order for when the system fails". In this video he talks about how the UK replaced paper bank notes with plastic. You can no longer spend the paper notes but can only go to a bank or one of 50 post offices and show ID to convert your notes into the new plastic type. Since they keep a reocrd of your ID, they will surely ask questions about why you had so many bank notes stuffed in your mattress.
