Well the gate opener is working again. Topens dual gate opener. They were very helpful during a warranty claim. Naturally I didnt' tell them it was a lighting strike. The only hold up is they didn't have the main board in stock.

So as it turns out the limit switches were bad as well. They smartly put a 10k resistor across the contacts of a reed switch so they can tell if the limit switches are connected (or burned up). Very clever.

So now we'll have a spare board on hand and a pair of limit switches too.

New thermostat for solar hotwater heater found. This is one rated for 120vac or 169vdc. Connect up 3 or 4 250w solar panels in series to a 120v water heater element and enjoy the hot water. use this thermostat and the existing pop-off safety thermostat in series. The above thermostat is available in many lower temperature setpoints... it occurs to me you could clip it on the hotwater line to a shower and turn the vent fan on and off as well.

A friend is mounting his panels and trying to carefully align them. So he uses a small C clamp to hold them on top of unistrut and small wooden wedges to fine tune their placement.

So here’s a video on making apple pectin. I haven’t tried making it myself but this seems pretty informative and hopefully I can try it out later on this year. If I do I’ll try to remember to show you guys the result.
