Yesterday we got a pallet of 70 sheets of "master rib" siding, the same stuff as on my workshop. We are replacing the vynil siding on the house as it has become brittle and has cracked in a few places.
When we originally installed the vynil we put a J channel at the bottom and caulked it down to the concrete porch surface. Although it is holding the j channel very nicely, it is not a 100% continuous bead of caulk. When we get a blowing rain it hits the siding and runs down and into the basement every once in a while.
I've decided to use a diamond saw to cut a 1/8" wide groove about 1/2" deep about 1inch from the wall into the concrete. We'll shoot a bead of caulk in there and set some Z flashing down into the groove. Once the caulk sets up, I'll finally have a continuous water repelling wall around the house.
We will then set the corrugated metal panel on top of the Z fashing and affix to the wall. Water hitting the panel will run down and around that z flashing.
I did a small section today as a test and a 4" diamond wheel on my battery grinder cuts like butter. I'll post pictures tomorrow. I've got to make a guide for the grinder. Looks like the hardest part is going to be cleaning up all the old caulk.

Amazing stuff.... a 32kwh battery drawn down at 200amps for an hour. And to think it has 628ah, so It could do this for another 2 hours. https://youtu.be/ekql33bxwkU

Tonight we limited the number of hops that about a dozen local repeaters will repeat. Traffic comes in heavier and heavier each night. Weβve started seeing stations from Louisiana and Texas here in SC.
Soβ¦. If someone in Ohio sends a packet without a region scope and its already been repeated 10 times it will not be repeated by the Florence sc repeaters.
If you specify a region such as us, us-sc, or us-southeast it will go up to 64 hops.
Translation: if you want to communicate with someone far away you should specify a region in your packets.

The cattle were lined up yesterday to move to the next pasture. They have to cross a bridge through two gates to get there, but they were ready. They may get another grazing of these paddocks before winter, but I'm not sure. Ive already gotten so much more grazing this year out of the land than ever before. Its kind of crazy how much more. I plan on doing a video on the difference. You can see how much they have mowed down the paddock they left and how tall the grass is in the new pasture they entered. Happy cows right now. We havent started feeding hay yet to our beef herd this year but had in prior years before now.
For those who follow us regularly drop a comment on what month you think we started feeding hay the prior two years while we were shifting the farm to regenerative agriculture. The answer night surprise you.

Here's a cut away drawing of what we're doing to prevent water from flowing across the concrete porch surface and into the basement. I'll use a diamond wheel to grind a groove around the perimeter of the house, shoot caulk in it, and set flashing inside.

How do you put a washing machine in a basement? You could plumb it to the grinder toilet you already have but that puts extra running time on that pump. How about a sump pump? Let the washing machine drain it's gray water into a 55gallon drum with a sump pump in it. Or you can buy a basin with a pump. Now you can pump that gray water outside or into your existing sewage line. I would make sure to use a water trap if connecting to the sewage line in your basement ceiling.

We had another calf arrive on the farm this week! If you guys remember, I had to deliver a calf while my wife and kids were on vacation visiting her family back at the end of August. That heifer calf is now 1.5 months old and is the bigger of the two in the picture. The new one is a bull (actually a steer now) and is the small one. Both of these are cross breeds. The heifer is a Jersey Gray (half Jersey and half Murray Grey) the steer is a Belfair (half Jersey and half Dexter). We may sell the heifer as a potential milk cow for a smaller family but the steer will definitely be for beef. I think we have one more Jersey that may calve before winter... so we'll see. She's a huge cow, so its hard to tell if shes pregnant or not compared to our others. I refuse to test for pregnancy when nothing will change either way, so we all find out together! Lol.
