Nifty Ends Flat After Choppy Session; Mid & Smallcaps Continue to Shine

After yesterday’s sharp recovery from lower levels, Nifty ended flat at 22,749.

Most sectors closed higher, with Nifty Media, Realty, Pharma, Chemicals, Healthcare and Auto gaining over 1%. Cement, private banks, financial services, and IT ended lower.

Broader markets extended their outperformance for a second straight day. Nifty Midcap 100 rose 1%, while Nifty Smallcap 100 surged 2.7%. Market breadth improved sharply, with the BSE advance–decline ratio at 2.13, reflecting renewed buying interest in mid- and small-cap stocks after last week’s steep correction.

The Indian rupee snapped a three-day losing streak, appreciating 8 paise to close at 95.11. With three key central-bank decisions scheduled this week, currency volatility is likely to remain elevated.

Highly Volatile Session Ends with Minor Losses; Mid & Smallcaps Shine for Third Straight Day

Nifty slipped for a second straight session, ending 50 points lower at 22,698.

Sectoral performance was mixed. Consumer durables, media, and healthcare posted the strongest gains, while oil & gas, IT, and realty declined the most.

Broader markets outperformed for the third consecutive session. The Nifty Midcap 100 gained 0.43%, while the Nifty Smallcap 100 rose 0.9%.

Market breadth stayed positive, with the BSE advance–decline ratio at 1.10, reflecting sustained buying interest in mid- and small-cap stocks for a third day after last week’s sharp correction.

The Indian rupee weakened 10 paise to close at 95.22, pressured by a 1.5% rise in crude oil prices after an attack on a Saudi Arabian refinery renewed supply-risk concerns.
