Roma Feud in Balbriggan Leaves One Dead After Hit-and-Run, Car Ramming, and Street Brawl.
The incident unfolded at around 9 pm on Monday when a man in his 20s was struck by a vehicle on Railway Street. Gardaí believe he was deliberately targeted.
Shortly afterward, a black BMW 3 Series was rammed near Balbriggan Garda Station on the Drogheda Road. A blue BMW and a silver Audi were also involved in the incident.
The two incidents were followed by a street brawl between two rival Roma factions, some of whom were armed with weapons. The Garda Public Order Unit was subsequently diverted from a football match at Dalymount Park to control the situation.
“The feuding within the Roma community has been simmering for a few weeks,” a source told the Irish Mirror. “On Monday night, gardaí were receiving calls from every Roma address in the town. It’s gone wild.”

Fair play to Neil Prendeville on Red FM for becoming the first journalist to cover the 2009 Rape Crisis Network study, which found that foreign groups were disproportionately overrepresented in Irish rape statistics relative to their population share.
The study was the first and last time data on the background of rape suspects was published in Ireland when foreigners comprised 9.5% of the population.
The study found that all foreign groups in Ireland (aside from North Americans) were more likely to be accused of rape, with Africans being ten times more likely and those from Eastern Europe over seven times more likely.

Somalis have long been a significant asylum seeker population in Sweden, but forced to reconcile with a wave of rape and gang crime, their government has now introduced some small measures to try and curb their numbers.
It's possibly enough has been done to make Ireland are more attractive destination as Somalis are fast-tracked through the asylum system here and granted refugee status in 99% of cases. Ireland wants to learn Sweden's lesson the hard way.
Sweden also offers monetary incentives for asylum seekers to return home. Starting next year, the offer will be as much as €31,400 so it's also possible that migrants could take this money and then reapply for asylum here. This could be a new trend or maybe it's what has already been happening.
Whatever the case, a pan-European repatriation effort is vital.
