Another tragic boat accident has reportedly occurred at Lihir Island today. A boat named Zhephir is reported to have sunk while returning from a picnic at Mali Island, carrying seven Chinese nationals. It is believed that all seven people on board have lost their lives. The Newmont Emergency Response Team responded to the incident but, sadly, arrived too late to save them.

We await official confirmation from NBC News and the relevant authorities.

Our thoughts and prayers are with their families, loved ones, and colleagues of those affected by this heartbreaking tragedy in New Ireland Province. 💔🙏
