The exclusivity gives the South African Post Office (Sapo) a monopoly over certain services, including delivering parcels under 1kg.
Gungubele made the announcement in a notice published in the Government Gazette on Monday.
“No person other than the South African Post Office SoC Ltd (Sapo) may provide a reserved postal service, and I hereby extend exclusivity for Sapo to provide reserved services for a period ending 1 April 2025,” it reads.
In terms of Schedule 1 of the Postal Services Act, reserved postal services include the delivery of all letters, postcards, printed matter, small parcels, and other postal articles subject to the mass size limitation.
This includes parcels under 1kg or parcels that don’t fit into a rectangular box with the following dimensions:
Length: 458mm
Width: 324mm
Thickness: 100mm
