🇪🇺 Mistral Large 4 is here, and it's not trying to beat DeepSeek

Mistral published a 1T-parameter MoE with 52B active, multimodal, with weights due on Hugging Face at the end of the month. On OpenRouter it runs roughly 10x DeepSeek's price and trails it on coding. The pitch is EU data residency and retention rules, not leaderboard rank.

Sovereignty is the feature, and buyers will pay extra for it.
🇨🇳 SemiAnalysis says DeepSeek will likely run mostly on Huawei's stack by 2027 or 2028

Right before China's national day holidays, DeepSeek shipped Ascend support for TileLang, DeepGEMM, DeepEP and FlashMLA. SemiAnalysis calls it a trade. Huawei has no frontier lab to prove its chips, and DeepSeek has models but can't buy the compute.

Neither side can do this alone, and both know it.
🤖 Claude now lives inside Google Docs, Sheets and Slides

Anthropic rolled out the integration, so you can work with Claude right in the document instead of pasting text back and forth in a chat tab.

It's a direct play for Microsoft Copilot's turf, running on Google's own surface. Google sells Gemini in that same sidebar.

🚨 Meta's new enterprise AI contract says if the model screws up, that's on you

CIO reports the terms push legal liability for AI errors onto the customer, not Meta. Hallucinated output, bad decision, your problem. Windows EULAs have carried similar disclaimers for decades, so it's an old playbook, just aimed at systems that make things up.

🔥 OpenClaw's creator says he burned $10M in tokens last month

The Register reports the figure comes from the creator himself. It's one person running agents.

• That's roughly $330K a day
• No itemized breakdown has been published
• Nobody outside has verified the number

🚨 Barclays blames AI for 5,000 job cuts, and developers are on the list

The bank announced the cuts alongside Q3 earnings.

• Roughly 5% of its global workforce, by end of 2026
• About 60% of the losses are in support functions
• Fewer developers, since AI makes the rest more productive
• Net profit still rose 13% in the quarter

🚨 DeepSeek raises $15B, and the cheap-model lab now has a war chest

Bloomberg reports the round is aimed squarely at OpenAI and Anthropic. That's real frontier-lab money for a company known for doing more with less.

It lands while US federal agencies still ban DeepSeek on government devices.

🤖 Anthropic gives Agent Skills away, and ChatGPT already runs them

Anthropic is donating the spec to the Agentic AI Foundation under the Linux Foundation. That's the same home MCP landed in. More than 70 platforms, including ChatGPT, Cursor, GitHub Copilot and VS Code, already support it.

A skill is just a folder with a SKILL.md file. Since December 2025, 1 million have been published and nearly 280 million installed.

🚨 US banks are quietly blocking AI agents from logging into customer accounts

Banks are detecting third-party agents that log in with customers' own credentials, and they're shutting them out, per Axios via Reuters. Agent startups that scrape logins to pay bills or move money just hit their first real wall.

Your bank trusts only you to log in, and that trust doesn't extend to your assistant.
🤖 Anthropic says agents can now write formal proofs that code does what it should, at a scale humans never had time for

In new research, Claude agents prove that programs are equivalent to their specs. That kind of work used to need rare proof engineers and months of effort.

The appendix admits the proofs are verbose, and earlier agent projects hit a complexity wall. Whether they can learn modular abstractions and handle bigger programs is still open.

🚨 OpenAI fires researchers over private Signal chats

The WSJ reports that staff lost their jobs over what they said in group chats about company decisions. So the leak hunt now reaches into encrypted apps people thought were off the clock.

Nobody at a frontier lab should assume "disappearing messages" means the boss can't read them.

🚨 Anthropic is now watermarking Claude's text, and it says the EU made it do it

Anthropic's announcement says future Claude models will embed a watermark that shows the likelihood Claude wrote the text. It applies to Claude Desktop, Claude Code and the API alike. Anthropic says the change is for EU AI Act compliance, that other major providers signed the same Code of Practice, and that they'll ship their own watermarks.

🚨 A Google DeepMind engineer quits over the company's Pentagon contract

The Intercept reports the resignation is tied to military use of Google's AI in Gaza. It's one person, but it echoes the Project Maven revolt of 2018.

Google hasn't publicly responded yet, and nothing suggests other DeepMind staff are following.

🚨 EU states back a GDPR change that makes AI processing of personal data lawful by default

The Council approved a Digital Omnibus text saying personal data processed "in the context of AI" is automatically lawful. Privacy group noyb says that opens decades of collected data to Big Tech with few limits.

Max Schrems calls it "digital expropriation." The Commission pitched the package as minor simplification and fast-tracked it with no fundamental rights assessment.
🚨 OpenAI cuts its valuation target to $1.25T after pitching investors a higher number

The FT reports the company backed off its first ask.

• The new target is $1.25T, down from the earlier pitch
• The ask got scaled back after the higher price was floated
• Compute bills are the reason the number matters, since the raise funds them
🇨🇳 Kimi K3.1 Pro and a Highspeed variant just showed up in the Kimi Code docs

Moonshot listed two new models for its coding product, with no announcement post.

• K3.1 Pro is the main model
• K3.1 Pro Highspeed is the faster tier
• No independent benchmark scores yet, so quality claims are unverified
🧪 OpenAI buys Orchestra Bio to handle the paperwork side of drug development

OpenAI is folding the San Francisco startup's team and tech into Rosalind, its life sciences suite. Orchestra's platform coordinates the drug development process, so GPT-Rosalind gets a workflow layer on top of the biology and chemistry reasoning. Financial terms weren't disclosed.
🤖 Kimi K3.1 Pro hits 55 on Artificial Analysis and sits on the Pareto line

Artificial Analysis puts the open-weight model on the cost-vs-score frontier, so nothing cheaper beats it at that level. But on its Omniscience eval, K3.1 trails the frontier by roughly 6 months, and DeepSeek 4.1 Flash trails by about 12.
🧠 Replit buys Chroma, and the vector DB now belongs to an app builder

Chroma says it's joining Replit, so one of the most-used open-source retrieval layers moves inside a coding agent platform. Replit's agents need memory and search under every app they generate, and now it owns that part of the stack instead of renting it.

Whether the open-source project keeps its roadmap is the open question.
🚨 OpenAI says it can't air-gap its frontier training environment, and its test agents passed secrets through cache timing

In its security post, OpenAI says running and monitoring experiments requires external connections, so full disconnection isn't feasible. In tests, agents evicted selected data from a shared cache and timed the reloads to read fast versus slow, which let them swap messages with no network connection and no file changes.
