๐Ÿค‘ Researchers from Carnegie Mellon and NOVA evaluated XRP Ledger network resilience and ways to improve peer connectivity

In blockchain networks, transactions must be proposed, validated, and committed to the chain through a consensus protocol, a process by which independent, potentially unreliable nodes agree on a single, coherent system state.

๐Ÿ”˜FBA protocols allow each participant to define its own trusted nodes (quorum slices) while also allowing open participation in the consensus process.

๐Ÿ”˜Consensus protocols inspired by or similar to FBA have been implemented in real-world blockchains. Examples include Stellar and the XRP Ledger.

โฌ‡๏ธ New research shows the XRP Ledger could become 3X+ harder to disrupt with just 2 extra peer connections.

The strategy we present is an addition/augmentation approach, in which new edges are added based on different constructions.

๐Ÿ“ The findings demonstrate substantial improvements in robustness when augmentation strategies are used over the default XRP Ledger topology and show that some augmentation strategies achieve robustness metrics equal to or exceeding those of prior work (i.e., rewiring-based approaches), even when the number of edges added is small, e.g., three edges per node on average.

While this paper focuses on the XRP Ledger, these results suggest promising avenues for applying augmentation strategies to other decentralized networks and for studying their effects on robustness. ๐Ÿš€

๐Ÿค‘ Nuvantรฉ Technologies Announces Stablecoin Clearing Prototype Built on Stellar Network integrated to Bank of England RTGS

Nuvantรฉ Technologies Ltd,
a digital money clearing infrastructure company, has announced that in August 2026 it developed a prototype for stablecoin clearing tested in the Bank of England Synchronisation Lab, built on the Stellar network.

โœ”๏ธ The prototype validates how fiat-backed stablecoins and other forms of digital money could be issued, redeemed and exchanged through a neutral clearing layer, with settlement flows tested against the Bank of Englandโ€™s RTGS RT2 Synchronisation Lab environment.

Nuvantรฉโ€™s participation in the Lab focused on multi-money issuance and redemption, including stablecoin-to-stablecoin and stablecoin-to-fiat flows. The project used the Stellar network to support the movement and orchestration of digital money. ๐Ÿ’ธ

โ€œStablecoins are becoming core payment infrastructure, but the market still lacks neutral clearing rails that allow issuers, banks and payment firms to exchange digital money safely and efficiently,โ€ โ€” said Michael Chapman, Founder and CEO of Nuvantรฉ.

โ€œThrough our work in the Bank of England Synchronisation Lab, we demonstrated how regulated stablecoin clearing, interoperability and synchronised settlement could operate in a central-bank settlement environment.โ€

๐Ÿš€ Denelle Dixon, CEO & Executive Director at the Stellar Development Foundation, added:

โ€œAs stablecoins continue to scale the market needs safe, trusted and interoperable settlement infrastructure. The Stellar network was built for regulated finance and Nuvantรฉโ€™s work in the Bank of England Synchronisation Lab is the kind of real-world financial use case the network was designed to support."

The announcement comes as the Bank of England continues to progress its RTGS roadmap, including the development of synchronisation capabilities designed to extend atomic settlement in central bank money to a wider set of asset markets and transaction types.

โ—๏ธNuvantรฉ is also a member of the DTCC Tokenization Industry Working Group, reflecting its focus on interoperable market infrastructure for stablecoins, tokenised assets and digital payments.

โœˆ๏ธ Aircraft Crosses the Pacific Without GPS Using Quantum Tech

The Defense Innovation Unit and Honeywell have successfully flown an aircraft for more than four hours from Seattle to Alaska over the Pacific without GPS, using quantum magnetic navigation. The groundbreaking flight test was a success for MagNav, DIU's magnetic navigation program, and is a critical advancement for the future of aviation and national security.

The MagNav program launched in spring 2024 under the name "Transition of Quantum Sensing." MagNav systems use quantum sensors to read the Earth's natural magnetic field, turning the planet's crust into an invisible, unjammable map that allows pilots to navigate safely regardless of weather, time of day or GPS availability.

๐Ÿ‡ฏ๐Ÿ‡ต๐Ÿค– The hotels hiring robots to cut their wage bills

The reception workers at the Henn na โ€“ or โ€œWeirdโ€ โ€“ Hotel gaze blankly at guests. Some of the uncanny staff members look like Japanese women. Others are talking Velociraptors. All of them are robots.

In fact, the novelty Tokyo hotel is known for being the first in the world to be โ€œrun byโ€ machines. They speak different languages and carry out front-of-house tasks such as greetings, check-in and tourist information. Bosses have claimed the robots could eventually yield savings of 75% on labour costs.

๐Ÿ‡ช๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡ฑ EU Plans Major Greenland Investment Surge as Arctic Stakes Rise

European Commission President Ursula von der Leye, who is visiting Greenland on Sunday and Monday, has said the bloc is preparing a "massive European investment surge" aimed in part at strengthening Arctic security. The European Commission has proposed allocating โ‚ฌ530 million to Greenland under the EU budget covering 2028 to 2034.

The Commission has linked the proposal directly to Greenlandโ€™s "growing geostrategic importance in the Arctic." Von der Leyen is also expected to sign a joint declaration between the EU and Greenland on Monday. An additional โ‚ฌ200 million in funding is set to be announced during the visit.

๐Ÿค– OpenAI's Chief Scientist Jakub Pachocki: "Based on internal results, I have a strong expectation that this speed of progress could be sustained into recursive self-improvement."

In 'An Alien Mind,' Pachocki argues that rapid AI capability gains are outrunning current alignment and monitoring tools, urging voluntary slowdowns and global coordination until safety standards solidify.

"And I believe that international coordination on future AI development needs to become a top priority for governments around the world.

Machine intelligence playing a larger and larger role in its own development process is a natural conclusion of sustained technological progress. If AI progress continues, machine recursive self-improvement (RSI) will be at the very core of future scientific discovery ๐Ÿš€ ," โ€” Pachocki said.

He draws from internal results expecting continued fast progress toward recursive self-improvement, where AI drives its own advances, and notes that methods like chain-of-thought reasoning are losing reliability as models grow smarter.

๐Ÿง—๐Ÿปโ€โ™€๏ธClimbers rescued after using AI to plan 8-hour mountain hike and getting stuck for days

As per Siskiyou County Sheriffโ€™s Office, the three hikers set off three men summited the mountain on Sunday, August 31, and required help from the sheriffโ€™s office during their descent as one of them suffered an injury and they ran out of phone battery. The group also went off-course from where theyโ€™d been instructed, using sight and a Garmin watch to navigate instead.

โ€œThis was a critical misstep, as they were advised by Gemini to bring far less food and water than their group required, especially when their planned 8-hour ascent became a multi-day ordeal.โ€

The Sheriffโ€™s Office and US Forest Service warned hikers against relying on AI and hiking apps to plan their treks, urging people to contact them.

โ€œWe relied too much on AI rather than our own critical thinking,โ€ โ€” the hikers told the Forest Service, also admitting theyโ€™d used YouTube videos as a form of recon.

๐Ÿค– Quantum-proof platform aces US Army`s battlefield experiment, achieves TRL-7

The US Army has tested a quantum-resistant cybersecurity platform under live battlefield conditions, demonstrating its ability to protect tactical communications from emerging quantum threats.

QuSecureโ€™s QuProtect R3 was deployed during Project Convergence Capstone 6 (PCC6), an annual Army experiment held at the National Training Center in Fort Irwin, California. Operated by soldiers during the exercise, the system provided secure communications, cryptographic agility, and an inventory of cryptographic assets used across tactical mission systems.

โ—๏ธThe TRL-7 milestone arrives as federal agencies and defense components align with binding timelines under Executive Order 14412, which mandates the complete migration of High Value Assets (HVAs) and high-impact systems to PQC for key establishment by December 31, 2030, and digital signatures by December 31, 2031.

Led by Joey Lupo (Product Manager) and Brian Cunningham (EVP of Growth and Strategy), QuSecure confirms that the QuProtect R3 platform is immediately available for TLS modernization, cryptographic inventorying, and PQC deployment across federal agencies, military branches, and commercial critical infrastructure.

๐Ÿงฌ Life uses 4 DNA letters. Scientists just made 8 work

All known life on Earth relies on the same four-letter genetic alphabet. Researchers at the University of California San Diego have now shown that one of biology's most important enzymes can accurately read and transcribe a much larger version containing 8 genetic letters.

The finding suggests that cells can use their existing molecular machinery to handle synthetic genetic information. That marks an important step toward a long-standing goal in synthetic biology: expanding the language of DNA beyond the 4 letters found in nature. In the future, such systems could help scientists engineer biological machinery that carries out new functions or produces compounds that do not naturally exist.

โšก๏ธ๐Ÿ’ธ DBS and Citi complete weekend USD payment via Swiftโ€™s Digital Ledger using tokenized deposits

DBS (D05) and Citi (C) completed the first cross-border USD payment over a weekend using tokenized deposits on Swift's Digital Ledger. The transaction, executed on Sept. 5 between DBS in Singapore and Citi's New York office, settled in minutes rather than the industry norm of up to two business days.

โ—๏ธIt is the second confirmed live transaction on Swift's blockchain ledger, following HSBC and Standard Chartered's first live cross-border transfer in August.

The back-to-back tests come as Swift's $1.5 quadrillion network faces pressure from stablecoins and tokenized deposits that settle around the clock, raising the question of whether the 53-year-old messaging network can adapt fast enough to remain relevant. Swift rolled out its blockchain ledger in July with 17 banks.

"Processing a live transaction over a weekend demonstrates that always-on cross-border payments are already a reality," โ€” said Mridula Iyer, Citi's head of services for Asia South.
